Fishing ships, perhaps. Fishing with trade ships and warships seems awkward and makeshift. Fishing is a 'safe' way to put ships to work; not on gossip pages. A means to put scout ships to work while in port, or warships to work while they await bring utilized. Crews wouldn't stand for that, would they?

Fishing vessels should have perks and drawbacks., such as easier means to cancel and recall fleets. They should be cheap with fewer crew, but no Cannon or combat worthiness. In fact, if they be cheap, they should only have one or two levels, and no traits at all. Easily captured or sunk.

They should be slower, yet hold ample food - but nothing else. Low investment and moderate return on the investment.

If whaling is brought forward, there's an entire new market to develop - I don't know if we want or need to go there.

That said, I am open to anything that will work!

I agree. Between the fishing mechanic and plantations, I don't think we need new buildings for fishing. A dedicated ship, yes, but there is already a suggestion for that.

My existing proposal for what SHM suggests is on the fishing tweaks thread. But it does seem to have been bumped away into the long grass... quelle surprise...

Re SHM - Whaling could present some interesting game options - so long as it functioned in a technical way that required skill.

I suggested variations of fishing styles to affect yield in the
Fishes concept thread
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2870&start=10&hilit=nets

Perhaps a player could choose the type of fishing.

Longline,
Trolling,
Seine netting
Drift netting

Each could come at a different cost and would be equipped by fleet or ship, each would perform differently, and possibly favor different ports or conditions.

Perhaphs the cost could be the equipment, or maybe you would need to buy a licence or permit to use the method in each port.

For example.

Lvl 1 permit allows you to troll
Lvl 2 permit allows you to troll or seine
Lvl 3 permit allows you to troll, seine, or longline,
Lvl 4 permit allows you to troll, seine, longline or drift net.

Permits must be purchased by port

Sea Shepherds - uncommon 3 turns

duration 72 hours
port specific

Cast on any player with an active fishing fleets.

Extremist environmental activists are cutting your nets
and blocking your fishing routes

Fleets return no fish while active

Not really. The fishing tweaks thread just hasn't been marked for review. It hasn't been forgotten. You are free to bump any thread you want and request a review to get the ball moving on it.

As for the Fishing Tweaks Topic, what will likely happen is that thread will be moved to discussion as it contains more than just the Dogger within it. The 4th Point within it is an Academy Tech for Fishing which would need to be discussed. With it being moved to discussion, a new topic will be created in suggestions for the Dogger linking back to the original topic to get the ball rolling on it.

It was not a criticism of the good work being done by the dev team : more a sad reflection of the way previous suggestions do get bumped down and off the pages whilst similar or related suggestions arise fresh but without reference to what has gone before. Maybe a reminder that there is much still extant in suggestions and perhaps a search beforehand could benefit new suggestions in a topic rsther than causing multiple threads and dissipating the discussion on it.

I added a view to this thread : I was asked to develop it in a post on the tweaks thread. I did so. That thread and my contribution draws no responses and drops down and disappears. This thread remains without my contribution yet becomes the current thread on the subject. So perhaps my annoyance has some relevance to how threads are managed.
Perhaps the team needs to consider if drawing contributions together under a headline thread on an area will benefit the discussion rather than treating each thread seperately. The danger is an idea gets lost in one thread whilst another thread becomes the cornerstone leading to a decision and by the time the lost thread resurfaces the discussion is already done and dusted. It has become irrelevant no matter how worthy it may have been.

This thread isn't a cornerstone, it just happened to have no response further back then the fishing tweaks thread, so it got reviewed first. The comments on here should be in regards to the suggestion at hand, which is a building for Fishing. Delving off on to separate discussions should not be occurring and is why I wanted you to post your comments on the Fishing Tweaks Thread as they related to that discussion more than this.

I would refrain from calling any suggestion a cornerstone. Cornerstone threads are the building blocks for a suggestion or a serious of suggestions and should appear in General Discussion. Fishing Tweaks is more of a cornerstone thread for fishing as it discusses fishing as a whole and a path forward, which is why it will likely be moved there. The Points within it will be created into independent suggestions and moved forward in development.

How we select a thread for review is by the last topic on the last page of the suggestions sub-forum. There are currently 19 pages of suggestions, the next suggestion that gets marked for review will be on that last page. The forum lists topics by activity, so the older activity are being reviewed first. It has some drawbacks but it aims at getting the most "dead" suggestions cleared first.

This specific topic has been sitting in review for some time as we are split on the decision. To get this topic where it needs to go, we need more input, so I bumped it.
