This forum has been derailed,
Bringing back on topic to it's competitiveness within itself and with similar games:
This game is what some would call a "niche" game.
Thinking about niche games it does make sense, another niche game I have played is called EVE online, I had to spend years playing it to get where I was when I left.
Why did I leave?
It no longer had new content, there was lack of change.
"Make your own content"
I have never been the greatest storyteller, so creating content is tough for me.
However in terms of logistics and new players, most new players I see here play a couple days and don't return.
I think it has something to do with an imbalance toward those that would be considered veterans.
I understand that we will likely never see a player base like that of gaming juggernauts such as WoW, GTA Online etc.
However, I do know that if a player does not have proper guidance when they start a game as behind the scenes intensive as this one, they won't get into the intricacies of it. UNLESS they are already in to that kind of game (hence "niche")
My suggestion is to focus more on how the newer players are received, and what kept veterans around.
Do something like that, and I see this game sticking around for a very long time. Perhaps even growing sustainably.
The dead may not tell tales, but they certainly have one.
