We at Lehman Stearns Investment Banking do not believe in such things as banking fees. Say -NO- to extortion bank fees, and bring your coins to us. We currently offer 37,5M capacity, and we are considering to increase it in the near future :)

During our simulations, we ended up with a new rule:
You must have an operating permission (or be the Governor of the port or the Rightful King) before you will be able to rent new acres

We judged this important as in different situations, enemies would be able to cause havoc without actual usage, by hogging all the available acres which seems illogical.

We are also examining the possibility to add a hard cap (pretty luxurious though) in how many acres one can rent. This hard cap will be relative to workers. No such decision has been taken yet but it is an open case.

Hard cap in a single port..... or a hard cap in total acres across all ports?

Per port.
I don't see it happening though. Probably the permission should be enough.

I may have missed it somewhere, but will the Governors have access to viewing which players are renting how many acres each per day?

We are contemplating about it right now actually.

First of all, Governors are not tied to acres rental. We believe that a free market will act better here. We should not take lightly the managerial workload that would be required if there was one person handling all acres rental fees.

There was another idea, to let the first 20,000 acres that each port gets for free, without governor interference. Then for every other acre added by the officials (up to 30,000, through port buildings) we could give them to decide the fee. However, we do not really find a sufficiently good enough reason to do this. Governors already have the upper hand to control their port.

So, our leading idea here is to let the free market decide. It will also act as a balancing force. The minimum bid is 1gc and we are currently discussing the corruption fee, which should be about 20%. The rest will go to national coffers.

Regarding acres, we believe that this should be a public stat for everyone to see. Governors surely will need to know the acres of each player, to determine the permission offer for them. However, since acres is something that one could easily find out irl, we see no point hiding it.

I would think Governors would still have a list of those who are renting acreage in their port as they are considered the managers of port happenings. It would be unlikely someone would own any given amount of land without a record being kept by the port Governors office.

As a Governor, if i had someone hogging the acreage available I'd surely want to take note and use that as consideration in any future operating renewals. Be it granting or denying it could go either way, perhaps they pay well for it and I want them there, or perhaps there are other intentions and I would want to limit their hold.

Agreed. Don't you think we should let everyone know?

It's not sensitive info and since Governors know, King will know too. That's two people per port that can leak info out anyway.
Now, there is the common folk in the numbers of thousands that stroll around the plantation. They should be able to estimate the size and leak it.

So, how about Governors get a full list (in exact acres) and the rest get a list ordered by acres, but with a rough estimation.
For example, a plantation with 0-99 acres would be tiny, at 100-499 it would be small, at 500-1499 it would be normal. At 1500-2999 Large, At 3000-4999 Oversized and at 5000+ it would be a MEGA one.

Acres Rental System is something that we have underestimated in the first place. After Shadowood's comments, we realized that we needed a bidding system to ensure fair play here. Today, we are presenting it to you with details.

Acres Rental
1)Basics
  • Every port is assigned a pool of 20,000 available acres. Nations will be able to add more later, with Port Buildings (perhaps up to 30,000 more)
  • The available acres are available to Plantation owners for a daily fee (rent) starting from as low as 1gc/acre.
  • Rental price is based on demand from other plantation owners and their bidding.
  • Income from acres rental goes 80% to the nation coffers, 20% to corruption.
  • At Pirate ports, acres are divided equally based on the amount of workers each plantation has. No rent fee exists.
2)Advanced
  • As long as you have an Operating Permission, you will be able to bid for new acres at anytime.
  • Without an operating permission, you will not be able to bid for new acres. However, you will be able to retain the ones you have as long as there are available acres. You will normally pay the rent during this time. You will not be able to bid for acres kept by other players.
  • If for any reason, your plantation has severely less or no acres at all, you will be penalized accordingly. However, penalties will be less harmful if the period is small.
3)Bidding for Acres held by other players
  • When bidding for acres held by other players, you will be informed for the minimum required bid to secure the acres you order.
  • You will be able to place 1 order per plantation per day. Your offer will need at least 24 hours before it is executed.
  • Open bids can be changes at anytime. Changing a bid, extends its deadline by 24hours.
  • Other players cannot see the bid details. However, players that are about to lose their acres will be informed of the amount of acres they will lose as well as time remaining till these acres are lost. Such players may be more than one every time (ie, someone wanting 10,000 acres will possibly effect a lot of holders) which means that most of the time, it will be a fight between plenty.
  • Similarly, in case a player raises his offer, your existing bid will notify you of the projected acres you will now be able to receive through it.
  • At similar bids, bids are listed by deadline. Therefore, the one which expires first, will resolute first. As a result, the ones which follow will fail as every bid will need be greater in order to be successful.

The details above, have been added to the first page.
This system is being built the last few days and today we will finish and test it.

This also means that there is absolutely no case of an early release. I informed you that we will let you know by Tuesday. However, we are still within schedule for June 1st! Jessica does not believe we will make it but I am confident, so keep your positive energy for it up! At Thursday I will provide you a new whereabouts.
