John and his men quickly enter the church with pistols drawn. The entrance is a scene of pure decimation. A half dozen bodies lie across the floor of the church. As John moves forward, he gives instructions to his men.

Move forward and secure the sacristy and the basement.

A guard pops out from around a column firing a pistol towards John. The shot strikes the man to John's right. John quickly takes aim and returns fire killing the guard. John draws a second pistol while holstering the other and moves toward the altar.

A young man is laying against the altar bleeding. John recognizes him as one of thieves that stole his key. As John gets closer to the altar, another guard rises from behind the altar. Before the guard can fully stand, John fires a shot striking the guard in the face. John pulls a third pistol and again holsters the other pistol.

John's men move to the door to the sacristy and enter. A few shots ring out. The men move down the stairs in the sacristy into the basement clearing the area.

John moves to the young man bleeding at the altar and searches him. Around his neck, John finds his key and rips it from his body. John stands and places his pistol on the altar. John takes out his two fired pistol, reloads them, and then re-holsters them. The young man weakly grabs John's leg.

Please don't let me die. I'm sorry for stealing from you, but I don't want to die like this. I'll give you any information you want.

John looks down at the young man.

While you are injured and bleeding, that wound won't kill you. What exactly do you have that I don't already know?

The young man shows some relief.

The governor. He runs this. We steal anything that may be of value and move it here. Anything that can't be easily sold back at the market, gets moved out to a ship and sent to other ports and sold there. We receive immunity from prosecution and a small stipend based on what is collected.

John aims his pistol at man

Thanks, but as you are ...

The man interrupts.

You said you wouldn't let me die.

John chuckles

You stole from me, and I said the wound wouldn't kill you. I never said I wouldn't.

BOOM!

A shot rings out, the man slumps over dead.

John reloads his pistol and holsters it and calls out to his men.

Ok let's start loading the wagons. We don't have a lot of time before additional guards get here.

Brian see's how John killed the man and just thinks to himself how its a good thing Ellen wasn't here to see that. He checks his bag again and hefts it a bit more, he looks inside and see's all the gold is still there. He goes over to John and says in a somewhat happy voice

Well i got back what was stolen from me, but something tells me if the Governor isn't dealt with, opening up that new orphanage Ellen want's might not be possible. Especially given how most of the orphans here seem to be recruited into theives-an oprhanage would really hurt them when looking for fresh recruits. So if you plan to deal with him, im willing to help with that too.

John turns to Brian

Let's regroup back at the tavern. I want to see how the governor reacts, plus I want to figure out what we should do with all the confiscated valuables.

Brian nods, as he helps load up some loot into the wagons and heads back to the tavern where Burt is currently polishing some mugs with a group of men in the tavern drinking some rum. He shouts.

Hey, how did the raid go, and good news, I called up some of my most frequent customers, and they are willing to help take down whoever is responsible for all the thievery.

One of the men shouts.

Yeah, ill help kill the sorry sucker who ended up getting me robbed. How can I buy rum if I don't have any bleedin money!

Burt turns to him.

No more rum for you then, you told me earlier you had some.

The man curses and turns to Burt.

Oy come on, you know I'm good for it, be a pal.

Burt laughs and says to the man.

Oy Herald I'm just messing with you, tonight's drinks are on the house so long as you help out later.

At the dawn of the next morning, Brian checks out the town plaza to pick up some news. Apparently the governor says the church was attacked and raided by thieves, but that the local guards will have the men responsible arrested soon enough. He also mentions that he will be leaving for Aiora soon. Brian quickly heads to the port and with a bit of a bribe learns that the Governor is preparing several large heavily armed ships and is filling them with large crates though what's inside is unknown. Brian notices a few guards looking at him, so he quickly sneaks back to the tavern going a very roundabout way and sneaking in through the back. He notices that all the local men Burt could gather are all here armed and ready. Brian arms himself and makes sure all doors are locked and windows covered. He calls to John and the rest of the men.

All right, governor is having guards look for us, but I think he plans to head out with all the loot he has so far. If we don't hit him soon we might not get all the stuff back. By the looks of it he aims to get outta here within a day or 2.

John finishes his drink and looks toward Brian

I wouldn't believe those rumors. The Governor doesn't have a clue who raided the church. Any movement at the docks are likely a trap in the hopes those that hit the church will take a shot at the harbor. If they do have any stolen goods on them, it's likely peanuts compared to what is stashed elsewhere. Only a fool would show their hand after a single raid. And considering that the Governor has been able to steal from his own people for so long without drawing attention to himself, tells me that he is both smart enough to not travel with the stolen goods and smart enough to set a trap.

Turns to Burt and signals for another drink.

Besides if you want to hit them, the best time to do so is when they are at sea. They can't go and call for reinforcements from the local barracks, while out at sea. They will be on their own.

Burt corrects John as he hands him a drink.

Governor isn't as smart as you make him out to be. I told you from the start i suspected him of being in league with the thieves, and half the port suspected it as well. Wasn't exactly hard to figure out-thieves always knew where the guards would be, he never made any bounties for any of them, and his mansion kept getting bigger and more furnished every day. But when it came down to it even though we all suspected him of being corrupt we couldn't do much about it. He has the guards and thieves on his side, and we had no one to report his crimes to. Some tried getting a message to the king, but they never returned. I mean he isn't dumb by any means, but he did an absolute shite job at covering up his involvement, i mean im a bloody tavern owner who has had next to no education and even i can piece together the things he is doing doesn't add up. Its just he has the power to keep us from doing squat about it.

Brian thinks for a moment.

I think I have a bit of an idea. I'm gonna take his bait and hit the docks along with some men. We put up a good fight, and then after a while we surrender. That way he will think he took out the threat, so you John and your men will be able to catch him off guard later. If he thinks the threat is gone, he might lax his guard.

Burt looks worried for once.

Uh mate, you might die you know.

Brian laughs.

Well its a good day to die Burt. And if I don't get this bloody orphanage set up before Ellen gets here, I will be wishing I died. Anyway John, if we don't meet again it was bloody nice knowing ya. And Burt do me a favor, if I do die, take the gold I left here and open up that orphanage when this mess is fixed okay?

Its dawn as Brian and a group of 40 men look upon the docks. Brian fires a shot into the air signaling the attack. The men rush forward and quickly dispatch the guards, as Brian charges into the fray taking out one with a pistol shot and another with a quick stab, he quickly leads the men into the largest ship, and after some fighting takes it, upon entering the cargo he is shocked to see it filled with powder and various explosives. He shouts to the men to jump as several cannons fire into the ship. He just manages to duck behind a large cannon-its metal shielding him from much of the explosion, though he takes some bad burns and is knocked back. He quickly staggers to his feet and abandons the ship as it burns. Upon making it back to the dock he sees the men quickly gunned down the few remaining quickly surrendering as he does the same. He is quickly tied and he and the 4 other survivors are led to the governor's mansion. Probably so he can gloat to them he wagers. Still he thinks, he survived, and this should help John make a move against the governor. And if he is locked up, Ellen and Emily will have to get him outta jail before they can kill him he chuckles. As he passes the tavern he shoots a glance to it, hoping this all works out.

After 2 days of torture and beatings, Brian is starting to get quite worried, especially after hearing his execution Is coming up. He thinks to himself.

What the bleeding hell is John doing. Maybe i made a mistake in trusting him, he already got his stuff back, why would he want to stay and stop the governor. Well i suppose its a good thing i had a backup plan for this.

Outside the jail, Burt and some of his men cause a distraction, and a explosion hits part of the jail opening up a hole near Brian, he quickly slips out of his restraints and runs out into the night. He quickly along with some of Burt's men board a small cutter and sail off, to meet with Ellen and report to her. His head hangs in shame at his failure as he speaks to one of Burt's men.

Ellen is going to be so disappointed.

Burt heads back into his tavern and begins to think of what to do next.

At the Governor's Mansion.....

Night has fallen on the port of Thorakas. The governor is awoken from his sleep and is told of Brian's escape. The Governor summons the Captain of the Guard, and heads to his office.

As the governor enters his office, the guards close the door behind him. The room is darkened, but is lit enough for the Governor to see that a unidentified man is sitting at his desk. The Governor is puzzled and calls out to the guards. No answer. The man (John) looks up at the Governor.

I've made sure that our meeting is uninterrupted. Your guards won't come in here nor will they help you.

The Governor chuckles.

My guards only listen to me.

The Governor again calls for his guards, again no response. Concern starts to show on the Governor's face and moves back towards the door finding it to be locked. The Governor burst out in anger.

Listen here. I don't know who you are and what you are doing here, but you will unlock this door. Guards, unlock this door at once, this is an order.

No response is heard from the guards and door remains locked. John takes in a deep puff and exhales the tobacco smoke.

I told you Governor, your men won't help you and our meeting here will be private. I suggest you take a seat.

The Governor quickly moves to a bookshelf and starts moving books around looking for something. John pulls out his pistol and cocks the hammer. The Governor freezes in place.

I've already taken your hidden pistols. Now sit down.

The Governor grudgingly moves to the chair in front of his desk and takes a seat and looks at John, he looks familiar but can't place his face.

Who are you and what do you want?

John puts down the pipe.

Well governor, my name is John and it seems that you have stolen...

The governor still not recognizing John interrupts.

Well, how noble of you John. Come to my home, take out my guards, and lecture me. When I have you hung....

John quickly throws a knife that sticks into the chair only inches from the Governor's head. The Governor all but jumps out of his chair and swears at John. John continues while still aiming his pistol at the governor.

As I was trying to say before you interrupted, you have stolen from me and your citizens. While the thefts of your citizenry is not my concern, your thieves have forced me to move up my plans making my dealing more risky.

The governor waits several moments before responding.

I don't see why I should care. Did you not get your items back? I assume that it was you that raided the church, because the fools that we captured at the dock didn't seem like they knew what they were doing.

John responds

I did Governor, but while you did steal from me, I am not here only because of that. Do you not recognize me Governor?

The Governor still not knowing where he knows John's face from replies

Should I?

John lets out a deep chuckle

I can see how you may have forgotten. 15 years ago I was known by a different name. 6-Guns.

The Governor's face turns to pure fear and panic.

No! That can't be! You're dead, I shot you and watched your body fall overboard in shark infested waters. There were no survivors.

John moves around the desk closer to the governor.

You failed to make sure I was dead. I survived because you are bad shot, you scuttled my ship, and the sharks had plenty of other bodies to feast on. Once you left the area, I floated away on some wreckage. Was out at sea for 3 days before a merchant ship picked me up. Since you never knew where I hid my wealth, it was easy to start over.

The governor glares at John

So what now? You will be hunted to no end.

The door suddenly unlocks and two guards drag in an unconscious Captain of the Guards, dropping him by the fireplace. The Governor stands, moves toward the fireplace, and gives the guards orders, but they ignore him. John moves behind the Governor, pulling out his knife and stabs the governor.

What's next is your death and no one will look for me.

The governor gasps for air and falls to the floor. After a few minutes the Governor is dead. John removes the knife and places it in the hand of the Captain of the Guard. John looks over to the two guards.

When the Captain of the Guard wakes, kill him. You and your families will receive the rest of the gold when the job is confirmed done.

John leaves the Mansion and heads to the Tavern. As he reaches the gate, a shot rings out.

Several minutes later.....

John enters the tavern, looks over at Burt, and places some coin on the counter.
