There could be. The problem is how many, as the number of Nations is waaay more than available ports (many hundreds vs 21, and having 30 or even 50 ports wouldn't change things).
There has been here in forum different suggestions, splitting ports to territories hold by different Nations for example, or reducing Nations from the real ones to a minimum number of Avonmoran Nations.

When i started to game i thought same way. But after some time you will realize there arent many nations who might take control of ports. Beside existing port holder nations. Thats why we gathered a lot of members under same roof to build one and get access to a port. You can do the same when you feel you are ready.

At present having more ports means just controlling more ports. it would definitely bring more flag on map but as an exchange of current nation's members leave. or current nations will hold more ports. thats why i changed my mind instead of increasing ports like you said we should focus other suggestions to make it viable.

im also wondering that. not even room for council or king and not for future players aswell. its like closing a nation's doors for anyone else.

I think I remember something about laws resetting after a while in deserted Nations. Not sure about that.

It does, I don't remember how long, but I think it's 30 days or something after there is no king in the nation for the duration.
