Actually, in Germany, strict gun ownership controls pre-dated Nazi rule, to the extent that few private citizens did own firearms : what did happen after 1933 was that the existing rules were relaxed so that favored elements, such as party members, could own guns privately. The notion that Jews, Gypsy's and others were forbidden to own guns so as to be easy to destroy is a bit of a red herring, as they, along with most German citizens, never had any right to own guns anyway. It's part of a hypothetical argument raised by some to suggest an armed populace could have resisted Nazism. Some have taken this to mean that, historically the Nazi's passed laws to disarm their chosen victims : in fact, they didnt have to.
