Set Amount of Fame Gain per Ship

Postby Edward_Teach » Sun Mar 02, 2014 2:06 am

I believe there should be a set amount of fame that people gain, at the update, per ship they have. I suggest the following:

Amount of ships multiplied by 20= the amount gained at upkeep. Plain and simple, this does have a historical reference. People/companies who owned large amounts of ships were more famous than the people who owned low amounts of ships (ex. if a person/company had a total ship count of 1000 ships, they were more known(famous) than people/companies with 5 ships)

Ideas, thoughts, concerns?

People who had a lot of ships were famous for their trade not them sitting at dock. And the system to where people gain fame for trade already exist. The math is about 1fame for every 10crates sold. So, rewarding people who have ships doesn't make any sense if those ships don't actually do anything to gain fame. And we're not going to give them double fame if they are trading or doing something.

Also, this can easily be corrupted. You build 100 large merchantmen I build 100 cutters. I get just as much fame for cheaper ships.

That's not true. Pirates could be more famous than a company with 100 ships even though that pirate would only have 3-5 ships. Look at your own character Edward Teach for example. What this suggestion actually does is increase the gap between pirate and merchant and create a more unfair and unequal balance.
I strongly disagree with this suggestion. -1.

I thought it was clear but I'll state this anyway, I was referring to traders, not pirates in my suggestion and example. Pirates were infamous/notorious, not famous, huge difference. I do understand why you disagree with my suggestion but my suggestion is a good one. And I do think there are people who agree.

i think giving the different ships a set amount of fame gain per number per daily update could eliminate the 100 cutters vs 100 large merchantmen scenario.. a rough example:
man of war = 100 fame points
large merchantmen = 10 fame points

sad real world example eliminating all external variables:
guy with beat up old junker = x popularity
guy with a slick new ferrari = 10000x popularity

This is still unnecessary of a suggestion and even your scenario doesn't refute what I said about why this suggestion is unnecessary and why it doesn't help.
"Pirates were infamous/notorious, not famous, huge difference." In this game the system is the same so we treat infamy and fame as the same thing. This again doesn't actually prove why this suggestion is needed and why what I said isn't true or why what I said doesn't matter.
" my suggestion is a good one."
Why is it a good one? No need to jump to that conclusion with evidence why.
"I was referring to traders"
Great, so what? This changes things how? Again, what this suggestion actually does is increase the gap between pirate and merchant and create a more unfair and unequal balance.

I don't care about this one way or the other. But, for clarity's sake, this is about being able to plunder an inactive account until there's nothing left, yes?

Um no. That has nothing to do with this forum.

About what you said Goblin, once someone has 25fame or below, you can't attack them until their fame is above 25 again.

The whole reason I suggested this was because I was pummeled with voodoo by the admin, which he had the right to do so, because I intentionally lost a battle to keep Capt D above 25 fame, which has been used by many before me and I'm not sure if they were punished as severely or at all. I used danger manipulation, but I think back to it and it feels like it's more of a bug than it is manipulation. But keeping your fame low intentionally, and not arming trade fleets are also in a way a cheat of the system with the characteristic of high amounts of ships.

With the, generally low, amount of fame+high amounts of ships= limit on attacking during a raid and during a war, think about it isn't this in any way abusing the system? Now, I would like to revise my idea.

Instead of a set amount of fame gain per ship, how about a set low amount of fame equal to the amount of ships the player owns. (ex. you have 300 ships, the lowest fame you can have is 300) This does not create a greater gap between pirates and traders, but more or less evens a playing field.
