Received a few messages about this.

There are obvious pros and cons to starting a new server. It's a personal choice from a players perspective From a purely development standpoint, it is logical to start a new server especially when releasing major features.

HOWEVER, the circumstances of PG gives me pause into this being a good idea at this point in time. To keep it short and sweet, there are just too many existing features, such as Fame, Diplomacy, Treasure Hunt, Banks/Credits, Traits, Populations, Nations, Guilds, etc. that need to be finished, fixed, adjusted, or scrapped before carrying onto a new version of PG. If we are just going to carry on with these items still sitting in there existing state, I'd rather continue with the existing server. Why start fresh when the only change will be an addon feature.

This of course is only my opinion.

Honestly, I'd like a to see a 2nd server. Could play a different style on it, maybe try out full pirate for example. Would also let everyone start off on the same page and serve as a reset- I do think some newbies come here, see these giants who have been playing for literal years, possible over a decade and think "I can't possible catch up to them" and lose interest or be scared off.

There is certainly practical issue with it, and it might not be doable, or CJ might not want to do it anytime soon, but I would like to see it happen. It's also not true that the current server needs to be finished. Plenty of games can have multiple servers. And yes new things are being added, but with a 2nd server, this could be a really good thing. The first can be a sort of testing ground- see how something works and affects things, and once it's figured out, tweaked and stable can be put into the other server.

I don't understand why the strong reaction against the very idea. It's not a harmful or bad one, might not be practical but that's not what the discussion is about-it's about interest in it.

Mel, Daniks refuses to read anything that was presented and apparently it’s more of an interest in debating my choice of words. So I am done addressing him. Not against a server really. Me nor Dman are exactly against another server, It’s more like why is this a consideration at this point in time? Given all the work that needs to be done. Why bring it up?

you mentioned other games but how many of them games have one person doing all of the work? Shoot even the phone apps I have have a team and they not nearly as complex. Frankly I really don’t think people will continue to play this game if somebody is working on a second server. People are barely hanging on as is. It may not even be that worth an effort if people keep dropping like flys out if shear boredom. They need a reason to stay.

Also why have a second server that mirrors this one? Why not have it more pirate heavy? Less work too when you don’t really need banks and plantations and a players market and all that. Go old school. But whatever.

Yeah I agree it might not be practical, might not even be possible. It's just that's not the question asked here. It's would I play a second server? The answer to that is yes. Do I think a 2nd server is possible? Probably not without more help.

I like the idea. I don't think it can be done, but it doesn't hurt to discuss it, and what it could be like. I also like the idea of having a super nice house, with hired maids and butlers who do all the chores and work for me while I lounge about playing games and relaxing. Probably won't happen, but I can dream :D

Lot's of games have different 'worlds' to play in with tweaks, restrictions or timing differences. One I played was an Air Sim which would, depending on the world, start in a certain year, restrict routes to 'real world politics', or not,;allow or disallow leasing, have varying economy levels, etc. So whilst the base game was the same, how you then.played could be radically different.

I like the idea of a 'pirate' focused server. No war ship bigger than a frigate, no trade ship bigger than a galleon. Hideouts yes, marinas no. And so on. Now, that could be fun.

Will it happen. Not a chance in hell. We still have 'upgrades' promised years ago that have yet to see the light of gameplay. But, as Mel says, it's nice to dream. It's not some dastardly plot to destroy the game, so chill out a bit.

Couldn't answer the poll question. None of the categories fit.

No without considerable game fixes, and an sufficient active player base to support it, at a minimum.

At first I was like no way, this is a horrible idea.

But if done correctly perhaps it could create new interest and bring new players, while also giving current players more to explore.

:P this

In my opinion mirror of this world would kill whats left of the player base here. Why would any new player join this one when they get an easy start in a new game.

However if we had variations of this game that were outside worlds. Or maybe even inside worlds, that were feeders to the main game.

So lets say ( based on the above suggestion )we have Tortuga land of pirates.

A game based in the port of tortuga that is highly pirate focused game play. Game play could be completely different than it is here. Focused on port specific activities. Not only raiding incoming and outgoing fleets, but mischif in the harbor, looting people at the market, going to taverns, armories, and shipwrights for upgrades.

You can play as a new chatacter and play that game independatly or link to your account here. If linked
You are able to migrate some reasources earned there to this game.

A new player there is encoraged to create a linked account to thus game and play both. But it is not required.

This could be done for various ports, each with a unique gameplay experience.

New land traders bay, a merchant centric world.

Vassburg magistraits, world of political rivalries.

Rum lords of akrotri

Treasure hunt st martins

Ect .

All would have lots of references to this world.
Gameplay for a port would involve that port and nearby ports but not the whole world..

These could potentially create interest and feed new player into the main game.

I've been playing for a little over a week now, so I think I'm qualified to speak to the new player experience with the current server.

From my limited understanding there are 2 types of play styles. You either create a merchant fleet and watch them go from port to port, OR you try your hand at PvP, but since there is such a power difference, you really can only PvE.

I've landed on the second playstyle as that is what I find interesting, but it's very hard to stay engaged because my options there are limited - there are no other new players at my level to engage with, and I don't have the ability to attack older players. I even get attacked quite a bit by players I wont be able to attack back for a couple months at this rate.

I understand there is something to chirp at as that is the playstyle I've opted to do and I must live with that choice or change, however, it is a pirate game after all.

I don't have a solution, but I totally get why new players aren't staying. If it weren't for Magnus the Red and Vane I know for fact I wouldn't be playing.

The game is quite good with well thought out features. I can bite the bullet and slowly grow to ultimately play the game the way I want to, but something equally important is a good community. In all honesty, some of the replies within this thread is extremely off putting and doesn't paint the community in good light.

I vote yes, with a healthy advertisement campaign. Worst case it doesn't work, best case you get people in here that spend some money on credits which provides funds for future development/server costs.
