One of the biggest issues in my opinion is that folks seem to just not bother reporting at all, and yet complain when nothing is done with some posts they clearly have issues with. Yes, mods should patrol the forums and keep watch, but we are not bots-we are real people with real life issues, jobs, responsibilities, and we can't be expected to vigilantly read and moderate every post that is made. I mean hell, I went to sleep last night with this topic only having 1 page, and now I come back to see it's 17 pages long. I read a few pages, then skimmed a bit more, and decided to post this right quick, and to come back to read it a bit more when I got some more time.
Another big issue is that often times when action is taken by a mod, there is almost always a storm of complaints or mockery. Hell, I've seen folks complain and act up over getting verbal warnings-which is basically just me telling someone "don't do that or cut it out". Then when they get an official warning or ban for ignoring it, complain even more about mod abuse.
I'll admit, I could do a better job going over the forums, and enforce rules more vigilantly. I tend to try to be lenient with punishments. On that note however, the community could do a far better job reporting what they have issues with, talking to me in a civil discussion if they have an issue, and working with me and other mods to solve their issues. Mods are not gods-we can't read minds, we can't solve issues that we don't even know about, and we can't magically sense whenever a rule is broken. We also can make bad calls and judgements. Yet we can't fix errors, or improve if no one reports problems, or contacts us with their issues.
I'm a meanie head! Beware my Meanness
