Danik, there was never a question that the seas were going to rise, we are in an interglacial period and the seas haven't yet risen to the level they were during the last one. The aboriginals made it to Australia via the land bridge that is no longer there due to ice melt. The Indians did the same with a land bridge near Alaska, underwater. You could walk from Europe proper to the UK, follow the migration patterns. Thats all under water! Islands have been getting smaller for thousands of years, hell, Italy and Greece have been getting smaller, Florida is about 1/2 the size it was during the last Glacial max 15k years Ago.
So what do we have to look forward to? Well any ice already in water has already displaced the water and wont cause a rise. This means northern polar ice wont matter, this Means the portion of Ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica on water wont mater. Antarctica is a desert by definition, too cold to snow. It gets more snow and glacial growth when the global temp warms up. Thats why you have some lakes under the ice that are millions of years old even though temps have been much higher then they are now! Means the ice there doesn't ever melt! So I would say Antarctica is out. So that leaves us Greenland with ice melt that contributes 1mm of sea rise per year. Thats right people, that means that in 50 years, we could see a 2.25 inch coastal rise thanks to Greenland ice melt. Better make them boats have flat bottoms.
Look... im not saying we arent going to need to adapt to climate changes. Our ability to adapt put us at the top of the food chain. My issue is the articles that 2006 was going to be horrific globally with sea rising, then 2010, then 2016, then 2017, then 2018 then 2020 now its 2030 and 2050. They keep predicting catastrophe, it doesnt happen so they kick the catastrophe football down the field, meanwhile we scare the crap out of our kids make bad decisions and come out with toilet paper simulants like the green new deal. I mean I believe that blue actually believes we will loose most of the life on earth from warming up a few degrees. That should scare the crap out of everyone because that level of thinking causes depression, hopelessness and desperation and further bad decisions.
But guess what, after all the chaos and destruction we like to include in our kids bed time stories now, its gonna get real real cold. Northern Europe, Canada, Northern Russia, Northern USA, all gone! Under a massive sheet of ice. The next cycle is set to hit in roughly 1500 years. Sure hope we are ready when the sea levels drop again but we loose land mass due to ice sheets
