Again, the world has never seen communism as it was meant to be, as Marx had envisioned it. What we think of as communism, Soviet Union, Cuba, China, isn't really communism at all because there is a dictator. You must admit, if communism was done right for once it could be the best thing to happen to the world. But I'm no communist. I don't like it all that much, Socialism makes more sense and seems better to me. And socialism has been successfully pulled off many times, without a dictator getting in the way. Anyway, the reason that most people that support these progressive ideas are under 40 is because, well, the ideas effect them the most. Why would some 75 year old man care about how the world will be in 30 years? But, let me tell you, young people are the future. You better start expecting these ideas being implemented, just as soon as we are old enough to run for Congress and hold political positions. If you don't like it, that's fine. You are welcome to share your opinions, and try to make change by calling your senators, writing bills, and hell maybe even running for a political position yourself. I guess what I'm saying is that this country is about to get a LOT more progressive. Don't expect things to always be the same.
So long as a right does not infringe on another's well being or their own rights, it should be protected. People should have the freedom to say whatever the hell they want to say, so long as it's not like yelling fire in a crowded theater. Just because YOU don't like what they may say does not mean you should be allowed to censor their speech.
As for where socialism has paid off, name a few. Don't just make a claim and not back it up. I can name quite a few places where socialism has ruined lives. Look at Venezuela. The biggest problem with communism and socialism is you give more power to the government to run things and help people, but once the government has all the power, what's to keep them from turning tyrannical? Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It's also very funny and naïve how you seem to think young people will remain progressive. Many will, upon growing up change. Especially the ones who listen and learn from older generations. I don't expect things to remain the same. Thankfully, when and if super progressives make their changes without thinking things through, after some time has passed and it results in the inevitable failure, hopefully the generation after will fix your mistakes.
