Commentary on the Spain/Liechtenstein war

Postby Leo the Conqueror » Mon Jan 11, 2021 2:51 pm

When I first saw the words "Liechtenstein has declared war on Spain!" I just laughed a little bit. I didn't really expect it to turn into anything. And honestly, I still don't think it's going to turn out as anything big. At the request of DezNutz, here is my input:

First off, I am not a governor, or the King. Anything I say does not necessarily represent the communal opinion of Spain. That being said, I try to seek out the opinions of others in the council before I say anything on Spain's behalf, or just let someone else do the talking. So I will make it clear, anything I do or say, should be held against me and me only. Not my nation.

I have been blamed for the war. It was said that I "started it". I do not agree with this at all, and here's why: when a player does something aggressive like a raid, retaliation is expected. If a player says something to offend another player, it can be expected that their fleets will be seen on the plunderboard. What should not be expected, however, is that they get propped and have their nation declared war on.

When Dez declared war on Spain, that was by his own choosing. If for some reason he thought that it would be some way to get back at me, well, it's not. All it does is make players who should not be involved in a player-player conflict part of the chaos. And as far as I can tell, they do not want to be.

The FFJs and HNs I received made sense, the props did not. I cannot control if Dez wants to treat a personal issue like a nation one, but him escalating it to a national issue is 100% his own doing. Now, using that logic I would like to hear why anyone would say otherwise.

Some people insist that any attack on a person is between them and that person only. Other players may drag their guild into the action, or attack the guild of the other player. Or they may involve the nations of either player.

All of the above makes sense to me. Everyone has his own opinion about this. Do not expect that others see this the same way you do. Retaliation may come in any form, by anyone and against anyone. It may seem completely random to some, while totally logical to others.

Personally, I will not attack anyone based on what they say in the forums (with the possible exception of certain posts in the Union of Honor). I will definitely never attack anyone in-game because they disagree with me about how some new feature should be implemented, for instance. This is because I do not wish to discourage people from using the forums.

But, again, that is how I see it - and this, too, is something everyone sees differently. Other players may indeed attack you if you say something they disagree with in the forums. I think that is a little sad, as it may make some players afraid to use the forums, but everyone has his or her own opinion about how they should play.

Yep. The first prop came in at 2021-01-08 16:45:25 and the last one at 2021-01-09 00:16:06

If Dez would like to prove that he was not behind the attacks, he will post his voodoo logs

Sure, he doesn't have to. But that would be a definitive way to prove that it wasn't him

isn't it a saying that if I attack you, we play by your rules, you attack me we play by mine? If leo hit first, he shouldn't be upset that Dez hit him with props, if he really did that is.
