More issues with instant messenger

A few weeks ago I made a post talking about how sometimes it is difficult to open up chat with users. I would just click and click on their names and it would never open. I have found a tedious way around this since then, but the issue still remains.

But I would like to now add another problem with the instant messenger that has come up.

A certain player (just this ONE player) never shows up in the list of people. They are in my friends list, and I am in theirs. They can send me messages. Once they have sent one, as long as the problem above is not happening at the moment (it happens about half the time) then I can reply. But I can not be the first one to send a message, because they are not on the list. I already had them make sure that they aren't invisible.

Is this a bug, or am I just really bad at figuring this kind of thing out? I've heard other players also complain about problems with the IM system.
