Extra MoW Trait - Nobility

We are always looking for ways to improve the game. In fact, since the beginning player suggestions had played a major part in game design.

We read all suggestions.

Not a bad idea. I'm a little confused about how the trait works.

I agree that rewards and risk should go together in all aspects. More so than is the case with lots of things, like, say, plantations and gold smiths.

I think the current suggestion may be useful for gold smiths and people trading in gold. Several gold traders already use SoL escorts on their fleets. Swapping those with MoWs and increasing the profit may be tempting. For ordinary traders, though, party trading and selling on the player market would still be better than selling to port, even with the new MoW bonus.

What I think would make more people sail Big Ships, is if there was some change in plunder payout. If you got more gold for defeating better ships, then more players might want to use good ships to be able to defeat other good ships. Today, the payout is dependent on the target player purse and the "base value" of the tail ship. If it was based on the total value of the defeated fleet, then one would have good reason to want to defeat those good fleets sailing around, and MoWs might be good for that. However, such an idea would involve a radical change of the most fundamental rule of the game, which is how plunder works, so I doubt it would be easy to make such a change without it having adverse effects on several aspects of game play.

The risk with goldsmithing is suicide waiting for ROI
PM me any complaints (10M gold coin wire fee is mandatory).

So what makes a pirate want to use a MoW?

Not that I know you are not targeting that audience,

But what if instead of coming as a trait, this comes as simply another mechanic for mow functionality instead?

I don’t ever see pirates using this, despite this ship being inheritely a warship.

This isn’t a bad idea whatsoever. I’m in support of it.

But food for thought for a future suggestion for pirate stuff for the biggest war ship.

Just something to think about while your train of thought is on mow usage :)

Why would I, as goldsmith, even consider using a MoW? I recently finished an experiment of over two months of hitting top profit fleet pretty consistently running five cutters.

A MoW wont carry many more bars, it will have high upkeep, high risk of loss and a few percent on your sales price dont cover that, in my view.

The art of GB-shipping isnt about waving a big target over the fleet, its going quietly about your business 24/7 piling up the coin.

MoW's are a liability for the reason Haron has stated : they are worth spending lots of voodoo and effort to steal. They are just Peacocks of the Sea : high status markers that the owner has more coin than sense.

To add onto that, a large merchantman is the superior ship for transporting resources. If there is going to be a buff to MoWs, it should make it so that it can be used as a warship, which is what it is designed for, not for transporting resources. If you are looking for a better merchantman, then try suggesting that instead (like a SotL equivalent). I and many others have dreamed of the day when we could undock our MoWs and use them for battle. Not for when we could use them for transporting some gold.

We need to discuss ways to get players sailing them. They need to earn their price of credits on the market.

What can we do to make people sail MoW's?
.

Players don't sail them because they are a prime target to get stolen, and usually are.

Solve that issue, and you will see more sail.

Pirates didn’t and shouldn’t use MoW. However, they should have a FLAGSHIP!

Ah, like an extra tax for each MoW stolen? it could make stealing one barely worth it.
