Extra MoW Trait - Nobility

We are always looking for ways to improve the game. In fact, since the beginning player suggestions had played a major part in game design.

We read all suggestions.

Extra MoW Trait - Nobility

Postby Shadowood » Mon Sep 21, 2020 6:16 pm

Looking for a new way to get MoW's on the open water and not sitting in marinas.

I would like to add a new trait to MoW's call - "Nobility" (I am open to changing this, but it fits for now)

My idea is to use MoW more for Trade vessels and/or protection. Specifically for Gold Bars.

Currently the status of Duke or Greater gets you these bonuses.
Duke
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Dukes were the rulers of the provinces and the superiors of the Counts in the cities and later, in the feudal monarchies, the highest-ranking peers of the King.
Vote Power: 10
*+10% profit on market sales (All resources except Gold Bars)
*+2% profit on market sales (Gold Bars)

I would like the "Nobility" trait to buff these numbers when a MoW is in the trade fleet.
Additional 10% profit on market sales for a total of 20% (All resources except Gold Bars)
Additional 6% profit on market sales for a total of 8% (Gold Bars)
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

So this would stack with companies as well as EC correct?

Yes, just like it currently does, but with a little boost. Just for fleets that have at least 1 MoW in fleet. (extra MoW in same fleet would not double or triple this effect)

The main reason why MoWs are so useless, is ironically that they are so valuable. It's really weird. No one uses these ships, yet they sell for extremely high prices, simply because they are rare.

And here's the thing: Any ship can be stolen. It's just a matter of how much voodoo you're willing to spend to steal it (you will probably need to be more players to have enough turns, but that's beside the point). And the more expensive the target ships are, the more voodoo you can spend stealing the ships and still make a profit. This makes it much tougher to protect a fleet with two MoWs than a fleet of two frigates. While you may need the same voodoo to steal both fleets (that's a slight simplification, but only slight), the amount needed could make stealing the MoWs profitable, while stealing the frigates would be a huge loss.

If a standard MoW was priced at 100 credits instead of 400 credits, then it would be harder to steal one for profit. Still, people keep buying them for 400+ credits without being able to use them.

I actually thought about using some MoWs myself. With the levi protect trait on tail ships, it would be possible for certain types of pirates to use them. However, the downsides are just too great. I make much more with my lousy frigates than I would make with a fleet of MoWs, and the MoWs would be prone to theft, since even if I protected them really well, they may actually be worth stealing. So I'm sticking to my frigates.

This topic shouldn't be about stealing MoW and profits of that...

We need to discuss ways to get players sailing them. They need to earn their price of credits on the market.

What can we do to make people sail MoW's?

If I had an extra buff to trading with a MoW, I would 100% use it for a Gold Bar fleet. It would be a risk, yes. But rewards should come with risk.

And this trait would go on all mows? Or random like other traits?
