Fame : what is its purpose?

About politician speech. Can someone explain how it really works ?
Because i don't understand the sentence. To use 90% of my fame do i need to spend 90 extra turns or 90x5 (450) extra turns ?

Initial cast of 20 turns removes 20% then 350 turns to remove a further 70% to give the maximum of 90% : thus 370 turns required for max benefit of the card.
BUT... it can be better to cast it five times instead @20 turns and 20% each cast. End result is far fewer turns burnt and cards are not that expensive on market.

I understand why you would want to drop fame for use of voodoo....but why do we want fame? What is the benefit of having lots of it? Do you get a prize when you reach a certain amount or something?

I lose masses almost every plunder...and sometimes gain zero...(I understand the amt of fleets run by high fame target) but I cant see the dynamics and purpose of it please?

1 plunder/skirmish win gets me 5000 fame. 1 plunder/skirmish loss takes away 50000. Even when i have the better ships in the fight i still win the petty amount of fame. Couldn't the calculation include ship quality? That'll be better for people who like their fame. Not that i'm into fame, but there are others who like having it for competitive purposes. Wouldn't you like to have your name on the Quartermaster page calling you the most notorious player in the game?

I just used a card "politician speech" and it doesn't work as you explained
I had 3'800'000 fame
I spent 20 + 50 extra turns (to test the card effect. Because it also said i needed to use extrs turns. You can't have 0 extra turns)

The results are
380'000 fame used
190'000 gold generated

So for 50 extra turns it took 10% fame ! It means that each +5 extrs turns the game takes away 1% more fame.
So to use 90% of fame you need to spend 450 extra turns ! +20 to cast the card. It is a lot ...

My bad then.. its a long time since I used the card. I agree its a lot of turns and only makes sense when you have a great heap of fame to burn... and more than fifty ships... yep... not an option for every playing-style.

Today I lost 3 battles... won four times as many... only cost me 6.8 million fame!
Oddly, I do not feel incentivised to add danger to my fleets : is there something wrong with me?
