Flaming is expected here. If you are easily offended, avoid this thread all together.

I suspect a lot of the 'toxicity' and ill-feeling complained of in the game can find its roots in port control battles. It's become so high-stakes with billion-plus pops yet it is all so easily destroyed with a handful of cards cast at the opportune moment. So much gold has to be sunk into each port on a daily basis to preserve influence stacks which again can be destroyed in ten minutes.
It's just a battle of cards and gold and who can shovel mostest fastest. That attacks can be made and ports flipped without revealing the true attacker just makes for paranoia and distrust : pretty good seed bed for toxicity in my view.
It all adds up to stress and frustration which then spills out into ill-temper and equally toxic retaliations. I'd reckon better than half of port voodoo cast has no hope of changing the ownership of a port but gets cast just to piss folk off.
My conclusion is that port control needs overhauling : attacks can happen in ten minutes : nation responses are hindered by three-day votes. Which usually ends up being 71 hours too late. Meantime the port owners can pretty much only sit and fume or throw more of their own personal assets into the hole.

I'll add a last comment. : since I got out of port nonsense I have found the game to be more enjoyable, less stress-inducing and my interactions with other players have relaxed too.

2 simple solutions. Get rid of undercover voodoo all together and ban the "for hire" aspect of the game. I believe the rules state play your own account to its ful potential. Nothing more toxic than either/both of those.

I honestly don't care for actions where someone will attack anyone affiliated with someone they dislike. Especially when in certain cases one does not have a choice in certain matters.

I know for example many dislike Clock. I wish they would target him, and not his guild mates or his nation unless they personally get involved. The same is true vice versa. If I had a grudge with Feniks, I wouldn't cast on shadow. Mostly cause he would probably stomp me- feniks too probably, my strength is with words, not so much actions, but I digress.

Danik also makes a great point. Earlier this year I finally decided to really commit to port actions, mostly in response at first to US expansion, then later other attacks. And in just a short time I quickly burnt through a lot of resources, accomplished little and was quickly burnt out not just in port affairs but the game in general.

Port affairs need to be drastically changed. Until then I think I'll follow Daniks lead and just stay out of it mostly. I like being able to sit down, and having a sore rear does not help with that.

Edit- Undercover voodoo I am impartial to. I don't care one way or another, though I do like the to hire aspect. Bounty hunting and merc work should be a path option. But that's just my opinion.

Seems that is the justification Stan is using for acccepting actions against IoM. Also seems to be the justification Vane used for attacking IoM and VUDU. Yet bith have complained whewn others do the same.....

Do as I say scenario here it seems.

Hell it is the same justification Clock used to start this whole thing. He stated as much in the "To members of VUDU thread. He hit us because of Deluge/dman. So It seems it should be perfectly ok to turn it around on him and SKN.

Or is there a complete double standard in this game?

Feniks, to say you are in idiot would be a compliment. We didn't accept the terms of the extortion as a nation which was 50 creds to d-man and 25m to deluge. D-man had some bounties but took It out on my nation as a result of being a victim of his own poison.

Tell me it's because of me that the nation lost population because good sir it was because your boyfriend of a guildmate was told no and whined like a little baby after his pacifier was pulled from his gullet.

We will rise as the skn we used to be. One day at a time, skn will return to former glory.

Dont point fingers at others when you associate with a vulture!

Now that I've let out some steam, skn is a peace negotiating nation but we will defend ourselves when necessary. As stated in my bio if you feel that you have been wronged please negotiate to save us both financially in the long run.

Good day feniks, for yours is delusional to your somewhat naked eye.

I'd go simpler : a nation can only hold one port. It can be lost or regained or replaced by taking another but the limit is one. The benefit of port ownership and the cost of defending it can then be concentrated, as is the point of attack. Voodoo may weaken a port but it should never overtake one on its own. We need some battle mechanism as well : the physical occupation of a port. That is what should change the flag.

Mt reason for attacking SKN was stated because I didn't like your actions. I did not say it was because of anything that happened with dman.

Same exact thing you said about your attacks on IoM.

Again.... with the insults. See nothing has changed with you.

I have over 1000 ships. They have no reason to not target me.

Feniks, you are a little hard to follow.
Are you saying you ignored the peace treaty because a number of players continued to hit IoM and you think its subterfuge by Spain ?
Come on spill it out if you are the one who admires open game play. Tell us what really happened as to why this war has been continuing despite the kings of both nations declaring peace ?
