I do see your point. It does take a lot more time and resources to build large fleets, politic and develop voodoo chests at the same time, and reinvest in damaged fleets and not everyone has time for that level of play. So im guessing your opinion is things are just fine the way they are, thats cool, not everyone sees a need for change.

To add to Vanes ideas, you wouldnt need to delete anything, what if you just couldnt add more till you used, sold or deleted stock to the new set levels? Then no one would be out of any spending and it would be their choice what to discard/use, when and how. It would go eventually and those who rely heavily on voodoo for game play can be slowly brought in.

Wouldnt work mate. Imagine those with large chest using the primary cards they do. Until their chest dropped below the cap they couldnt replenish the stock of usable cards. A deletion system would be necessary for that. It would also be necessary to allow players to construct their desired chest build rather than fill up on garbage that they never use and wont sell.

Yeah true... hard to think of solutions to appease all equally :)

never used a credit card the interest would not make it worth it but beyond that i dont recall listing me in the empire owner list

+1

While we don't want new players to make the same mistakes that the vets before them made, newer players still should have to put forth work to achieve the accomplishments of those that preceded them.

Meantime... while back in port in a smoky tavern, members discuss the implications of the predominance of voodoo in battles and how to alleviate the problem or make arguments why more voodoo is better or worse for the game.

I was about to ask how Dez and Dmans comments could fall so short of the discussion and its topic....

Lot of gristle to chew on here. Firstly. Chest size. Its not as simple as big chest=unlimited power. Turns limit just how many cards you can toss. Co-operation means more can be tossed at a given target but the player with 2500 cards and the player with 25000 cards both have the same turn cap. Even using self-sacrifice to feed turns is using up that players turns at an increased rate.

I used to have a 35k chest. 32k was junk and nigh on impossible to sell in any quantity at any price. 500 trade masters serve little purpose. I looked at a crystal on an enemy. 2k cards. I was impressed. They were 2k of the right cards. Dangerous cards. Cards to be respected if used correctly. That alone tells me Master Vanes suggestion has some merit. Whats junk to one playing style is pure gold to another. I'd be happy with a chest limit forcing wiser choice and use of the 'right' cards rather than accumulating growing piles of junk.

Stan is right too. Voodoo should be the spark to the powder keg of combat. Not the killing blow all of its self. I hate 'one cast wins' voodoo. Battle strategy, be it ship or port, demands more than luck, more than hit and hope, more than tossing cards.

Let the game reward skill, let it reward talent, let it reward commitment. Years playing give experience but dont let the lack of them act against any of the above.

PS : regarding how players who have paid good credits but got junk cards in their packs are not punished for the vagaries of RNG : have a 'recycle' function. Kinda like 'remodel' crossed with 'gris gris' : feed in x cards get y random new ones back.

Limited voodoo chests sounds intriguing and Danik is correct with regard to huge overflows of the least desire able cards.
The problem is how do we reset ? The cards in many cases cost real dollars and to torch them is not acceptable.
I said earlier in jest about gris-gris cards but maybe there is something there ?

I don't really mean the current system but maybe something like a temporary time limited special ability gris gris could be used to transform a big chest of useless cards into something smaller and more suited to ones game play.

There would have to be limitations of course to what you transform and what the cost / ratios should be.
I dunno...just throwing out top of my head ideas.

We could, of course, initiate another war between all nations over ports. That seems to torch cards like nothing..... :P :P

Why would 'special ability gris gris' be temporary? With a limited voodoo chest size that seems an important card to still favor longterm, rich and powerful players. As pointed out, it seems unfair to penalize players who have invested in the game for a long time (with the possible exception of Dman, of course :y )......
