Fantasy Draft VI - VOTING POLL

AVONMORA!! Here it is! Your chance to vote and to crown the Champion of Champions!

Below are the Captains Blurbs (in draft order). Please read through these before you cast your vote. There may be some insight in there to sway your vote. Once again, a huge Thank You to the 5 winning captains for once again partaking in the Fantasy Draft!

With out further delay.... The Blurbs!

Sir Henry Morgan:
My blurb:

I have looked o'er the teams and they all be salty - it shows there be more great players as time goes on.

As I had the first pick, it be me one chance to select anyone (aside from other captains). The mates I play this game daily are scattered throughout the teams, and there be no way to gather them into a draft - so I considered those who would make great mates to play the game - those who would make the game fun every day; those who I see about but do not have time to engage with as I am here.

I picked first, a bloke I picked the most under-rated legend in the game. He does more than anyone to enhance the game with positive banter, particularly with this Team Draft.

From there, I began to build up the team looking for blokes that win, lose or draw, these sea dogs take what they have, give it a go and have fun. Be it at sea, in the nations, guild or in the forums, they make it fun to be a part of Pirates Glory.

Shadowood leads the most active guild in Avonmora, and has played the raider, trader, pirate and king at one time or another. He has made, spent and lost fortunes, but still sets sails and moves on. Sure, he collects MoWs, but he will also laugh until he cries as his adversary stands on his head with a sword to his guts simply because there's nothing else to be done about it. He be a gent and a scalliwag in one.

Dread Danik be of the same caliber, he, too has played all sides of the game, yet takes time to put fun not only in game play, but a bit of joy in the forums with his prose.

Kangaroo has sailed under several banners, and ye see him on plunder screens, gossip pages and ye know he's built up some swag along the way. He's also been the King of Spain.

The Accountant has also been seen about Avonmora, and seems to serve as the Merc guild more than all would know. Will bean counter, but a low profile to most, but definitely into some action somewhere.

Dejanira - another contender at sea, but one who also uses the forums to break the doldrums.
LordAv - this seadog has haunted Avonmora longer than I. Noted as one of the most ruthless fighters at one time, he now maintains a lower profile, King of the USA, with trade ships gathering swag - but Lord help all if he be crossed. Ye know ye will be gettin' all he can give if ye do!

Jolly Dodger - an appropriate name for one who seems to always have a plan in play - a trader, raider he be!

Yosarian - true to his flag, ye see his trade ships pretty regularly and now and again, his battle fleets. I admire his tenacity and loyalty to Bermuda!

JB Duke - here's a bloke who seems to have friends in many places. Loyal to the USA, and fun to watch when things begin to happen. He won't be at the center, necessarily, but where he be needed.

Last, but not least, Deluge - here's a quiet bloke who is makin' his way into the adventures that await him. I see him working his way up the ranks of Tokelau; I get the impression he will be around for along time!

Many of us seem to go out and conquer the game - lookin' for riches, gaining the best ships, maxed out hideouts, and more of everything.

This team be made of those who bring something better than all that - a wee bit of joy, fun, variety and adventure to a little old online game called Pirates Glory.

Team Captain Da Vinci:

First of all, I would like to say that all the teams look very good in this Draft . All the Captains have done well despite the usual constraints. And Shadowood has done a neat job as usual. Congrats to all.
What can I say about my Fantasy Draft team? Most of the players in it are already well known and have been selected in many previous drafts. Why not hear what the previous Captains had to say about them?

Black Sparrow
"The team needs honor, respect and chivalry to play the long game, and not be afraid to put it the cannon to it when the time arises. One who's been around the horn and back that can read the skies of Avonmora better than anyone I know..." -SHM
"...handy to have on your side in war when it comes down to it." - Xxmontyxx
"Excellent war strategist and tutor of newbies. Former of the HELM. What he doesn't know about the game is not worth knowing." - Lodswe
"...skilled leader, successful banker, and a player who i can personally assure everyone you do not want to be on the receiving end of (his) attacks if (he is) unhappy with you...
One day you go to the privy, when you return Black Sparrow has taken your ships, all of them. He barely even broke a sweat. He has returned to our tavern and is having a dram of rum with One Eye."
- William One Eye

Pirate, Merchant, Banker, Teacher, Leader and Legend. What else is there to say?

William One Eye
"... one who steps up when it is needed most. When a nation he joined almost entirely funded by one cheque book was about to fall apart due to enemies created and the sudden disappearance of its ruler, he took on the responsibility and wreckage left behind only to pick up the pieces, maintain it's holdings and lead the nation down a path of success! (not to discredit those who assisted in this endeavor but for simplicity will not go deeper)." - Charles Vane
"... a fellow king and shipwreck hunter... He has achieved much in his relatively short time here." - CDV
"... a very reliable ally, and a pretty good leader." - Meliva
"He has stolen more hearts with that wig then he has ships, which mind you is the second most in the game ... if you have ever seen his Spy Report, you will know he is the biggest in the game.. Yes ladies, Size Matters. He moves massive wealth daily, but if you look at his good eye wrong, you will lose your ships. There is none better in my mind." - Shadowood

Willam One Eye is a player who enjoys his game. He is a huge merchant with thousands of ships sailing under him. He is the King of Isle of Man, the largest nation in Avonmora in terms of port control. He has more than 10,000 Battle Wins has plundered more ships than almost anyone in the game. He does everything and does them well.

Jim Hawkins
"Jim Hawkins... I picture him as a moving mountain. I can only assume that a mountain moves slowly. But what can you really do against a mountain? I guess, only run away. You will find his Biography locked but I have been around long enough to know his deeds. He is an all around player in my eyes and above all a great tactician. I would avoid clashing with him at anytime... He more than deserves his 1st place in my team." - Black Sparrow
"Jim Hawkins, being the giant he is and being around as long as he has, has plenty of resources to help the team and plenty of experience in combat." - Meliva
"If wealth means success then count Jim among the most successful in the game, also former king of Spain" - Lodswe
"Former king of Barbados and Spain. The Mountain. Probably richer than the Spanish treasury. Protector of ATC and Spain. He may have put his aggressive days behind him, but poke him and you will quickly regret it" - Caladan

Having played with Jim Hawkins for a long time, I know he can contrast the calm nature of his merchant persona with the toughness and fight needed against his adversaries. The former King of both Spain and Barbados is also the richest in the game.

Damn the Torpedoes
"... a player who has shown ability to hold a guild together for a lengthy time while a leader ran rampant. One who also did very well with a nation for sometime. Cunning and unmoved when needed. " - Charles Vane
"DTT... (has) weathered many storms of attacking ships and voodoo... long-standing leadership, politics, and wisdom."- Slindur
"... someone who I have enormous respect for in battle. He is nowadays happily trading but can still hold his own if need be. His voodoo war chest is feared by many.
Has been the ruler of three powerful nations: Midway Islands, Egypt, and St. Kitts and Nevis, and as now a Governor serving St. Kitts, is one of the most active council members of the wealthiest nation in Avonmora. Leader of the legendary guild "The Pirate Kings ". A talented fighter, he has the time, the voodoo, and the will to crush all enemies that threaten his fleets and his guild. This is not the pirate to cross."
- Trixikilikili
"Former king of Midway, Egypt and St.Kitts. Has been a pirate and a Zomb(ie), now a very successful trader. An ancient beast you do not want to awaken." - Caladan

When The Pirate Kings(PK) and Pirate Kings(Zomb) ruled the waves, Damn the Torpedoes was one of a young crew of pirates that would raid merchants, including myself, with great success. Their skills were so good that they were a terror on the seas, feared as well as grudgingly respected. DTT has since switched from the life of a pirate to that of a trader in which he has excelled just as well. Although we were adversaries then, I am happy to have him on my side for the Fantasy Draft.

Anne Bonny
"Anne is active, eager, loves voodoo and unlike the rest of us has a bright future." - Pulpop
"... the rising star of Merc, the fearless Anne_Bonny. Already her second draft pick. As talented as she is ambitious. Fearless. has a real appetite for learning. She will be a force to be reckoned with!" - Caladan

Anne Bonny has exceeded these expectations of her mentors in MERC. She was one of the players chosen as a promising Rookie and this is already her third time in the Fantasy Draft. When Combat Rankings started, she held top position for quite a while in Privateer, Support and All Rounder and still finds herself in the top 5 for all three. Despite having more than 5000 battles and countless skirmishes to her name, she claims to have never lost a prize ship. With a finger on the pulse, the smell of gun powder in the air, the wind at her back and a sharp sword by her side, for rags or riches and more importantly for those that sail by her side, she'll be there... Waiting.

Lana
"A person not to take lightly; an honorable ally and respectable adversary." - SHM
"Lana, the first lady of TK... One thing I have noticed about this TK native is that its not only your teeth she will break. But along with all her talents, her growing banking businesses and wisdom, she is an awesome mentor to countless newbies that passed through this game " - Pulpop
"Well respected player in (her) circle, intelligent player that knows detailed game function, known for advising and helping new players, strongly opinionated, can handle (herself) well under heavy attack.
... Lana gets offended that you are trying to attack her team mates... constantly manages to block and clear any incoming voodoo you cast and then blacklists and confuses you. She goes to the forums and counters any attempt you make to get public support. Her arguments against you are shockingly valid. You begin to lose all hope."
- William One Eye

Lana is a PG veteran with detailed knowledge of the game. She is as helpful as she is strong, having guided scores of new players over the years. She has even been chosen to Captain a team in the 3rd Fantasy Draft.

SilverShadow
"a man who makes piracy look like a noble profession. he be one of those looking to break records set by the skirmish king, and he is doing good job climbing those rankings." - Cutpurse

This player makes piracy look cool. He has more skirmishes to his name than any other player except that other legend, Tom Lowe. He could well take the top spot by the next Draft, who knows?

Lachlan
Lachlan is the leader of The Guardians(GUARD), a training guild in the Top 10. He has a penchant for helping new players find their sea-legs, motivating them with encouragement. He is also the current King of Australia.

Edward Teach
Edward Teach is a seasoned veteran who is currently making his fortune trading while staying under the radar. He is no stranger to conflict and has his powerful fleets on the ready for a fight.

The Argonaut
The Argonaut is a rookie that is eager to learn and her zest for the game matches her zest for life. And her love for her fellow players matches her love for beer!

My apologies as I did not expect this blurb to get so long. It just goes to show the exceptional calibre of this group of players.
TL;DR - Vote for Team Da Vinci!

Team Trixikilikili:
We have the past, present, and future of Avonmora.

We have the experience and influence of current and past kings/queens of the most powerful countries and guilds. We have some of the most successful merchants ever in the game. Our merchants are consistently in the charts for most profitable fleets, and we have some of the biggest, most powerful banks in the game.

We have several fearsome pirates who have been so aggressive, they have made some players quit the game altogether. They have spread notoriety despite many name changes (roberts? who?) Some are in the running for most amount plundered. We also have some of the most successful NPC and player treasure hunters in the game, although in my case, I'm actually the most successful player treasurer hunter EVER (thanks, rich merchant who shall remain unnamed!). I have inevitably forgotten to mention many other attributes of the players in my team and for that, I apologize.

Should this team form a guild and go guild vs avonmora, we would absolutely be a force to be reckoned with. We have some of the best strategists and the most flexible players. If called upon, merchants can defleet and unload ships to become full time pirates, and vice versa.

I have the greatest honor of even being among these other great captains, who have selected such fine players. This is ultimately just a game, and this draft is ultimately just a little bit of fun, but I know that all of the players selected are as honored and excited to be participating as I am, and wish all players well. We would be very grateful for every vote but may the best (or most popular!) team win! ;)

Team DezNuts:
First I would like to announce our team name: Team Slaughterhouse

Our MOTO: If we aren't slaughtering your ships, we are maiming plantation advisers and slaughtering workers.

From a general standpoint, my strategy for my picks was focused on the following three things:

1) Players that have experience in Plunder and War
2) Players that will think outside the box and think for themselves.
3) Players that hate Plantation Advisers.

This draft was definitely different and a little harder as it made it ever so important to anticipate the other captain's picks. That said, I was able to get the team I wanted. My position in the draft and the expectations of the other captain's picks allowed me to pre-pick 7 of the 9 regular draft players, with only 1 player (Clockwork/Void) from my remaining regular picks coming from off list.

In the business of keeping it short, as I'm not really fond of Blurbs:

I would like to thank my team for being available to be selected.

I would like to congratulate and thank all the other Captains for creating formidable teams.

I would like to congratulate all those chosen.

Good Luck...

And Vote Team Slaughterhouse

Team Caladan:
Thank you Shadowood for arranging yet another great draft, and also to the other captains, for making it an exciting draft.

Since this has been the champions draft, I figured my team should consist of champions, the true champions of this game.

These are players who have contributed to make this a better game for us all, be it in the form of forum moderators, being part of the dev team, writing guides for all to learn from or from being active in the forum sharing their ideas about improvements of the game.

I could list all their feats as fighters or traders, but that is not why I chose them, I chose them for their biggest feat, their willingness to contribute to making this great game even better.

We also have a rookie that is showing great promise, and I'm sure he will soon put his mark on Avonmora!

I am proud to present to you My champions:

Pulpop
Charles Vane
Skyhawk
Meliva
Sebena Kachichc
Zephore
Sir Vincent Lazarre
Lich King
Redish
1infinate Piracy

Good luck to all the captains, and may the best win
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

And then we're off :D Again good luck to all the captains!

Let's set a new record for number of voters this time!

Hope you will host many more drafts Shadowood, and I have a suggestion for the next draft: why not let our rookies from this draft be the next captains?
I think that could make for a very interesting draft....

Rookie Captains isn't a bad idea. Although I think we should try a draft where the captain only gets 1st pick. The pick then chooses the next player and so on.
