Thought this through some more, and have some (mostly) easy to implement details that could make it even more useful.
In order of importance (in my mind anyway):
1) Add the ability to sort on the "Ship List" screen with the same method as the "Fleet List" screen.
2) For each column name in both lists (except, of course, "Actions", and maybe "#") have a small up triangle/arrow and a small down triangle/arrow to the right of the column name so you can choose to sort high-to-low or low-to-high.
3) "Travelling to PORTX" should be sorted as if it just read PORTX.
4) Make the sorting remember how you previously sorted so you can stack/prioritise your sorts like you can do in M$Excel.
#1 and #2 and #3 I see as vital. #4 is not vital, but a nice touch that could help those with huge armadas (Captain dungeness?)
Even with my small armada, choosing to sort high-to-low or low-to-high on both lists would be a huge boon. Off the top of my head, it would make it much easier and faster to find ships in a huge range of practical situations, eg: damaged ships (high-to-low), ships I might like to work on (low-to-high in level, crew, cannon, cargo), my most powerful ships (high-to-low in level), which fleets are most/least in danger (useful for a number of circumstances), fleets in a particular port, and fleets that only have 1 ship, etc etc etc...
In fact, it was just lucky right now that I found a damaged ship on the first page of the ship list. Giving that it only currently sorts by availability, I could have easily missed that one.
