Mischael says

Let's try the church. There's maybe some kind of demonic influence on these people, which is less likely to affect a priest or vicar.

Abe nods as he begins heading into the town, leaving his men behind to watch the ships. As they enter the local priory, things appear normal, the local prior is talking with some monk as they are just setting up a nearby table, the prior nods to the 2 men once he sees them.

Good evening, we were just about to have lunch, would you care to join us?

The prior shakes his hand

Prior Paul Johnson

Abe shakes his hand as well after quickly examining it

Abe.

The prior leads the men to the dining hall, where around 50 monks have begun eating, the prior sitting in a corner table, Abe sitting next to him as some bowls of soup given to them. The prior nods to Michael as he speaks after eating some soup

So what brings you lads here today?

Abe silently examines his soup pretends to drink it, without really doing so, while taking a hard look at the surroundings.

Michael says

I'll get straight to it: there's an area with evil spirits and demons milling out of, do you know anything about it? Also the people seem really happy despite the danger, which is interesting.

The prior nods his head

Oh that, well we here in the prior took care of it as soon as we learned of it.

Abe nods

Well that's good, would you mind though if we took a look at it just to be safe?

The prior shrugs

If you want to waste your time then sure. Might want to rest first, it's a bit of a hike. You can sleep here if you want, or we can book you a room at the inn.

Abe nods

Think I'll sleep here too.

The 2 are led to bedrooms, and once alone Abe whispers to Michael

I think we should probably sneak back to our ships and gather our men. I do not think these men are who they claim to be. At least, not anymore. That prior's hand felt ice cold like a corpse. Didn't want to say anything until we were alone. I think these men were probably killed, then their bodies taken. They probably plan to kill us while we sleep.

Fr Michael nods

There's obviously something very wrong here. Something very powerful and extremely evil has taken over. Considering what a place of vice your average seaside settlement is, it's not surprising.

Abe chuckles

Oh trust me, your average seaside town is like a church compared to some of the places I've been and seen. But honestly you can't fault this town anyway. It's that bloody area nearby that let in all those nasty buggers that ruined this town.

I mean in all honesty it's rather impressive for a sea town like this to have a nice prior so close. Perhaps it was built first as a remote religious building and the town came later. Well I suppose it doesn't matter now.

We could try to jump whoever comes up to kill us, gather some info, or try to sneak back to our ships and rally the men. Or some third idea if you wish to come up with another plan, we should hurry however. I imagine we have an hour or 2 before they assume we have fallen asleep and come up to kill us.
