Mass Drydock plunder discussion

Postby PFH » Wed Jan 09, 2019 4:02 pm

Would any privateer agree that an inactive with many drydocked fleetless ships that are howkers lmms and tgs all level 1is never worth commandeering and really isnt worth the ravage to plunder off as well?
Even an active. It isnt worth a ravage for a lvl 1 lmm, not worth for a tg lvl 1, not worth a commandeer as thats 2-3 credits when you can buy one off market for a single credit.

How are we supposed to get thes ships off a player without spending a fortune for such little backpay? Its basically a economical shield protecting the inactive so he may return to his fleets barely even scratched. Medici for example or even CGoody. There are ships to be taken but it is way too difficult to do the task. Its rarely worth the shot.

I do not have a solution in mind but id like to start a discussion of a possible solution.

A few things that came in mind was a card that gave a ship the ability to attack drydocked ships of a target player or to even have a ship ability that instead of stealing from the fleet would plunder a drydocked ship instead.

I know i have had bad suggestions lately so i decided to bring this issue to the community.

A note to have is if CDV went inactive and placed all of his trade ships in drydocks and big ships in his marina, he would barely lose anything if he left, and could be considered as a vacation mode essentially.

I see this discussion as a complete non-starter, Grim2.

2 words: Nation Missions.

Even with nation missions its not economically in your favor to rank. A few notes for it to work right is when you are attempting a speed record as thats what charles vane did for his ranking. But even then if you are a pirate or a privateer loyal to your nation this cannot apply. No one is gunna leave their nation to just reclimb for the sake of plundering a few ships. Its wasteful to do such.

I just seek input from anyone who also believes such. Or may not even believe such. All input is appreciated.

It seems silly that there would only be inefficient and uneconomical ways to obtain the ships or even extraneous solutions.

It may not be economical for you, but not everyone is in a mercenary, pirate, or privateer style guild.

Become a mid-large trader and then do nation missions. It is more economical to find and hit inactives to level up, as they don't come with risks of retaliation on your trade fleets.

Again. Non-starter.

You dont have to be any of those to want some ships. Im not in favor for privateering sake im in favor of a solution to veer away from a vacation-like tactic. If you are already a king, governor, or duke, pirate, or mercenary you are not interested in completing nation missions at all. This is what im trying to address as an issue. You tend to hit inactives that have fleets. Medici hasnt been used for a nation missions and he has 3k ships laying around untouched.

I see this as a non-issue really.

You can get the ships from Ravage or Tidal Waves... But as you said already they are not worth it.
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

I see this discussion as nothing but a complaint to not be able to farm an inactive easily.

Ships not in a fleet is a game feature.

An inactive having ships not in a fleet, which can still be taken, is not an exploitation or a vacation mode. You can take them while they are active and can still take them while inactive. Them being inactive, shouldn't make it easier to get their ships.

Medici should be hemmoraging ships. The system automatically tidal waves people with mass amounts of ships out of fleet and these ships become shipwrecks plus players can cast tidal wave cards as well. I would be more interested in a way to get ships locked away in marinas of players long gone.

Banger is correct : even ships in fleets can be TD'ed once they become crewless, as inactives inevitably become.
Of more interest to me is the sad fact that cleaning out inactives does water down the prize pool for TD's and salvage. I got tired of seeing a stream of sloops and howkers and thus rarely bother now with either action.
Not like the old days when you could enjoy the occasional sotl or other handy vessel being washed up. My own SotL 'Daisy' of infamous repute was one such vessel. Its a shame newer players will so rarely be blessed with such fine ships from TDs nowadays.
