Is it really an issue or just possibly an issue.
Point valid but how often is it going to happen ?
As it stands, sellers can and do post ship sales in the forum and there is nothing to prevent what might happen from happening.
Therefore, although abuse is possible in either scenario, is it currently a problem ? Would it become a problem ?
Does the problem outweigh all the social positives a more open market would bring to the game ?

There is only one real way to find out.

Adding the name of the seller would be a good addition to the game. Provided the player has the option to reveal this info if they so wish to show it

Arranged purchases are an issue. It prevents a scenario where Player A is telling Player B that they can get this ship and if they have to over pay, they will refund credits. Not knowing the seller makes it difficult to do as such.

Is that really that big of a deal to have a fixed price sale? Also I believe it already happens because every so often I see ships being sold for ridiculous prices so I am only to assume it was to differentiate that particular ship for the sale and then the credit difference was refunded after.

Definitely a question for CJ.

From my understanding, CJ wanted both the Ship Market and Voodoo Market to be as close to anonymous as possible.

Lets take it a step further and lets say, there are 10 major ship builders in the game. Many have completed ship techs but certainly not all try to make a living off it. Those who do could actually compete on the market for the best pricing. Perhaps Harolds Shipbuilders has his preferred customers and provides a 'loyalty discount to certain customers.
Is that a bad thing ?

No.

IMO, Shipbuilding as an industry would need to be more than updating the ship market to show a seller. There are things that can be done to better enhance specialty ship building well beyond what we currently have.

Its a false issue : arranged sales take place all the time. A fair chunk of them avoid the market altogether via commandeers and credit sends.
Actuality is that having the seller known would highlight regular offenders who over-price yt still find the same buyers... for whatever arcane reason precludes them just sending the damn credits thru the long available in-game transfer method.

PS: I am getting a bit peeved at the way each and every suggestion to improve the ship market seems to get dismissed on the grounds of a better suggestion happening some way off in the future but hey.. nobody is articulating what that suggestion may be. just that it aint been made yet so disregard those that have been.
Its damn discouraging for those who might have wanted to push further down the ship-building career route.. such that I incline ever more to abandoning the whole business completely as.. I dunno.. maybe something better might happen instead... in the future... maybe...

It really isnt an issue from experience. Ship sales for discounts happen at time. Like when i announced fluyts for sale for a discounted price. What i had to do was have the customer bid on all of the fluyts and i would send back a certain amount so that the discounted price was honored

Ok. I think there are better and more relevant ideas out there for game development then showing who the seller of a ship is on the market and giving a description. Arguing the semantics of seeing the seller vs not seeing the seller is irrelevant to actual gameplay development.

Furthermore, I see no relevance to the argument for the Ship Builders and buying from a trusted source. Who is selling the ship is irrelevant to the quality and or make up. It makes no difference if you buy a LVL1 6 Attribute SOTL with Fire Assault from Player X or Player Y as the ship is the same. The argument is moot. The only reason I can see to know the seller is so you don't buy from a particular seller. I don't agree with that and do not support it.

As for better ideas, there is a discussion on updating the ship market that has good ideas in it to include ships that don't get a bid with X days are sold to the shipwright. Something that actually makes sense. In regards to my specific comment, I have an idea for actual Ship Building, that has no real bearing on the discussion at hand, other then in a general sense of ships being sold, so there is no reason to actually discuss it other than in passing.

Discount sales do happen all the time, announcing a ship sale and placing a ship on the market at cheap, is not an arranged sale.

Private sales are not strictly forbidden (not to my knowledge) but as a means to curtail the issue of pushing/milking (ie. playing your account to the fullest), the ship market acts as an anonymous public auction. You bid on it anonymously as can anyone else in the game. Thus when sold on the market, if the sale comes in less than expected or more than expected due to legitimate bidding it acts as a means to curb the issue. There are obvious workarounds to the mechanism but it serves a purpose and I see no reason to eliminate it when the reason for eliminating it makes no difference to the sale of the ship.

Theres the problem : those ideas you speak of about improving the ship market have been offered up since the market opened... how long ago? Heck, I know cos I made some of them and the response remains... kick it into the long grass cos there are better ideas coming down the pike... Well.. where are they? When are they?
Um... yeah.
I'm done with trying to push ideas forward as its all far too much effort for scant reward. Okay.. let it remain as is.. I can find better things to be doing with my time.

Again, my idea has nothing to do with the Ship Market, it has to do with Ship Building. Thus relevant only to the direct comment from Stan about Ship Building and not worth discussing further on a topic about the Ship Market.
