This is something that is coming up again in chat, GoldBar Sink.

IMO, I think a good sink for GoldBars would be influence. This would create a massive sink in GBs.

I've actually discussed this out on Slack with Wolfie. Here are my thoughts:

Influence purchases will be done in two manners. Gold Coins and GoldBars.

Gold Coin Purchases will be limited amounts, but will allow new players to still pay for influence without having to spend large sums of money. Limits would be 10,000 gold coin per purchase. Yes that means you could still purchase 1B in GC influence, but you have to do it in increments of 10k gc. This is obviously not economical, so for influence purchases were the intended gc value would be more than 10k gc, GoldBars would be used.

Goldbars have no limits. You can put any number of GoldBars from 1 through how many you have in the port warehouse toward influence.

To keep the influence calculation the same, GBs that are spent for influence would be converted to gc based on the sale value at the port.

So if the sale value of GBs is 2200 in the port. To put in 10M gc equivalent of influence you would need to put in 4546 Gold Bars.

The conversion does not change the GB values in the port. The conversion is done solely to calculate influence.


For those that worry about the Gold Coin Sink that influence creates, that would still exist as the coin would now be sunk into the Gold Bars and then into influence.

The demand for gold bars vs the amount produced is still an issue needing addressed. Have more sinks for it will not help as the demand for gold bars is higher than produced in the recent months. I believe CJ mentioned something about this somewhere which is why i mention this.

Move to discussion however. I believe with future updates to solve possible gb problems will come eventually

CJ just brought up in Slack General 2-3 days ago that we need a new GB sink as the numbers are starting to go back up to a high supply. The reason for the big hit of GBs was because Plantations were just released. Now that they have been out for a little bit, the supply will return to normal and is exceeding the demand. If we don't keep the demand greater than supply, eventually it will come to the point where the only way to make a profit is having a lvl 20 Gold Smith.

You have to also consider that there are plenty of people that don't make GBs via Gold Smith currently, because it is not economical to do so. Allowing for market expansion is needed.

Yes CJ mentioned that we might need new GB sinker so I brought up influence and after some thinking and talking Dez and I came with it. I think it is fair and it helps in tiny step with port battles in a way where you need to plan port takeover and not just do it on a whim. It could take days to prepare overtake which then helps with economy where goldsmiths are worthed on lower levels aswell
