The influence gain from trading would be small. You would have to transport and sell Hundreds of Millions of cargo to have an impact. With the suggested conversion rate of cargo to influence, for the best rate you would have to sell 70M cargo to earn 1M influence.

The idea is interesting: linking Influence to other game actions and not just to quickly sinking billions of gold coins in a few minutes near upkeep time.
