The ships are taken out and prepared, all the shore guns are prepared. Every man waits near his post, and when the night comes they sleep there as well, all except the lookout, who'll be killed if he doesn't spot the enemy

As they sit about prepared, not too far off the invading fleet is finally fully repaired and sails to Valorim, but they do not approach the island or engage with the fleet, instead they simply begin sailing around it, just out of reach of the ships of the island's fire, though their cannons are run out and prepared to fire if the ships move closer. Emilia sees this and grumbles.

Can't hit them with a boulder at this distance. Wonder what the hell they are doing.

Jack looks at them with his spyglass.

They're obviously trying to fight out of range of the big guns on shore, to give themselves a bigger advantage.

The dismas fires a ranging shot, which lands close to the enemy.

Emilia looks at the ships, as the men aboard it begin dumping things overboard.

No, it looks like they are up to something. I'm going to go and see what they are dumping.

Emilia begins walking down toward the ocean and goes beneath the waves, as the men continue dumping more and more items into the ocean, while keeping a long distance from all the ships.

The line gets slightly closer, the dismas fires a gun again, very narrowly missing her.

After a few minutes Emilia comes back out, as countless fish rise up to the surface dead. The enemy fleet leaves after dumping a few last barrels the men laughing loudly and cheering. Emilia shouts.

Those b*astards went and dumped all sorts of toxic crap into the ocean, it's going to spread all over the damn place, nothing will grow here for years, and will make most people incredibly sick after a while.

The waters around the ships begin to turn greenish, and a vile smell hits the crews nose, causing many to vomit. As Emilia walks back onto land, the ground where she steps turns black, and she immediately stops moving as she shouts enraged.

Ugh, im covered in that crap now. Burt, go tell my mom i need some help. I swear im going to kill those pricks for this.

The local barkeep Burt nods and heads into the lair. The invading fleet as they leave begin dumping barrles behind them, and begin sailing south.

As Jack's fleet get's ready to fire Emilia shouts loudly at him to stop

DON'T YOU BLOODY IDIOT THOSE FUMES COULD BE COMBUSTIBLE.

As the men fire, the gasses ignite, blowing up the cannons and incinerating the gunners, and flames begin to spread on the ships, as the enemy fleet continues sailing away laughing, dumping more barrels as they leave. A few shout as they continue leaving

Come follow us if you want, it's hilarious watching your men blow themselves up.

1. How do bad fumes cause guns to edplode? 2. That many exploding guns would kill nearly everybody on the ships

Because the spark of heat and fire inside the cannons when it fires would ignite the gasses in and around the cannons and make an explosion. Unless you mean how the fumes caused an explosion in which case it's pretty basic science, some gasses(fumes) are combustible and when ignited such as by a cannon firing it causes an explosion. And as for why not everybody died, well I decided the explosions would be small so as to prevent that, if you want a reason, well let's just say that while there was gasses in the air it wasn't enough to make too big an explosion-just enough to damage the guns and kill the gun crew.
