This would sound kinda obvious but it is not true in many cases. The misunderstanding is the base of many legal issues.
For example in the past when you did buy a paper book, you got also the right to lend it to a friend. Nowadays when you buy an ebook, you not always get the right to let someone else read it. The same for many softwares. Sometimes you don't even get the right to install it on your new device, if you change it.

Yes, that isn't always exactly the case, there are copyright and other laws that exist to protect the original owner, but I can take a computer I bought from Dell and smash it into pieces, or take a painting/art work I purchase and burn it in my backyard. Dell nor the painter/artist can do anything about it. They have no legal recourse. However, if I take their product and reclaim it as my creation or use it in a manner that violates a licensing agreement, I can face legal recourse. Joker cannot define how someone uses his art work outside of copyright laws, and unless Joker is the original artist or has authorization from the original artist, he has no recourse what happens after the work is done.
