Rewarding Active Community members

Postby Captain Jack » Wed Jul 18, 2018 10:35 am

Ahoy all,

We are seeking for a way to reward active community members. It is hard to define such with any way different than post count. We currently have multiple forums but let's break them to two: In-game forums and these ones.

Our proposal is to get counts of both and whenever these reach certain milestones (like 100 posts, 500 posts, 1000 posts, etc) we create, first of all, an in-game milestone achievement.

Of course, such can lead to a few spam but we will be able to cope with this.

We are looking for additional rewards though. Feel free to comment on the initial idea and add your own ideas and proposals.

Im not sure you should look for a system we as players should know about. The rightness of the allseing eye should have that pleasure and dignety to decide alone. :)

Id there is a plan to upgrade the code of these forums in particular, I have found in other guises that a post count is rarely as valid a measure as a liked post count.. This highlights the members contributions that have value over pure volume.
I moderate one forum (1M+ users) and admin another ((1.5k users) both using xenforo which is particularly user friendly.
If there is no plan, than disregard this post.

No one should be rewarded for posting useless garbage. I agree with Roo, a like system would show actual value and contribution. Rewards such as top helper along with an achievement once a certain number of likes are obtained.

Aye I agree with ROO as well, but nothing adds to the volume of useless posts like a "like" or "thumbs up" button.

Limit the likes a player can give out to others at 2 or 3 per day.

The problem with counting likes is that it doesn't reward community members who tend to be more active in RPs compared to elsewhere. Who is going to like an RP post? That makes no sense.

If a reward system for Community Activity is going to be implemented it needs to be multifaceted. It can't just be about post counts, or number of likes.

In idea could be awards towards the plantation. A carrot to make the game self sufficiant in goods. The whip could be a tweak in the Party cards. Set in the future where the party cards are minded more towards production an happines/ health in the plantations, in the port it is used.

This could be beneficial. I know that I always forget to go to the forums; I go to the tavern and if it isn't on there, I'm probably not reading it unless I remember that the actual forum is separate from the tavern at the time :p

Then again, I don't know if this will help a forgetful idiot remember something important, but who knows; maybe it's the motivation needed for me to tell myself "hey dip****; there's a forum for this game you need to check".

To be fair, one thing in this game that is slightly outdated in many aspects is the user interface. I'm not complaining or asking it to be changed or anything. Just pointing it out because I know that when I first came, I would have never realized that there was even a sepate forum without people explicitly telling me.

A single rant thread could bring a few players to jump many others, just because many don't like to contribute to haters topics. This would be highly ungenerous to reward just the more noisemakers.
