Jack nods

With the exception of God, you are correct. What I meant was that it simply just goes away for awhile, it's never been disbanded. It only comes around when it's needed, and it's quite clear that it's needed very much so now.

Emily laughs

If its been around so long, and was around when this all started, and you claim that it can stop Rhena-like problems, then it clearly isn't as powerful as you say, or its even lazier then Vune at her worst. You, me Agnar and the Mages guild has solved this attack on the ports-they haven't done jack crap about ANY of the attacks or issues. Hell here we are, waiting while the Mages guild opens up a path, and clears the way for us to solve this problem. Where the hell were they if they are so powerful and skilled? I could be in my castle relaxing, studying and practicing if i didn't need to help you guys with this issue.

And after Rhena is dealt with, it won't be needed at ALL. The issue will be solved. No thanks to them.

Jack purses his lips

They've only recently become active again, as in, days. It's old members couldn't decide whether or not to make the order active again, they realized they probably should start up again, they just happened to start up again. They could be on their way here now...

Emily looks serious as she just stares at Jack.

Slimes burning people alive, and ruining the land from being able to grow crops, Giant disease spreading bugs infecting, biting and killing people, Golems turning cities to rubble, lizard-men starving ports, and you don't want to KNOW what the Mages guild had to deal with in the other areas, and your telling me those people "couldn't decide" on to make their order active again?

If thats the case then this order isn't a threat to anyone if it took them THIS long to do anything about a problem this severe. Hell the mages guild reacted within a day when they found out, and these attacks have been happening for WEEKS. I mean hell if we and the Mages guild hadn't ended these attacks this order wouldn't need to do anything because there wouldn't be anything to save. The attacks would have wiped everything out by the time they got moving.

Hell even WITH our help almost a third of the ports are wiped out, and the rest badly damaged. But since your so confident in them, im sure Vune will be happy to no longer do their work for them when i tell her.

Jack puts his face in his hand

It's members are rather haphazardly spread about the earth, only a couple members are in Avonmora, and most, with the exception of one, are not in the ports at all. They live in the land-bound cities, so news travels by horse and it generally takes a bit for everyone to get news. its main sectors are in Jerusalem and Rome which if you can't tell, is a really bloody long way away, it takes months to get here, and news travels even slower. The four members here, aren't enough to do any serious damage to any enemies.

Jack takes a drink

Anyway, what kinds of guards do you think Rhena has? Human?

Emily just shakes her head

Then this organization isn't very smart Jack. Any large organization that is spread out needs to make sure that its members are able to communicate with each other fast, and efficiently, as well as make sure any branches it has in different areas are capable of doing actions without the support of the main branch, otherwise it isn't a bloody branch its just a few lookouts at best. And to be spread out so thin and haphazardly is a giant sign of incompetence and weakness. And only having 4 members in a land as large as Avonmora? What good would those 4 men do without needing to get help from the main branch? Hell like you said it takes ages to get here without magic, so those 4 men are essentially useless until they get help. Just like in this attack.

She sits up a bit before continuing.

Take the mages guild for an example of PROPER management. Vune has it so that any branch outside of the main one has a staff of competent mages with a variety of skills. Every branch has at least one member who can teleport large distances to both help other mages retreat and to help spread news fast. Likewise every branch has mages who are skilled in combat and fighting to help protect each branch. Other measures are also taken so that every Mage guild branch is capable of acting independently from the main branch without needing to ask for help except for the most major of incidents.

You say this organization has existed for thousands of years? Then why don't they know such basic things that the mages guild had perfected millennium ago. Sure we have magic to help us, but even then there are non magical ways to spread messages incredibly fast and reliable beside from bloody horses.

She thinks to the question Jack asked.

Probably has a few. Most powerful mages have a few apprentices, though i doubt she has any normal human guards or soldiers. Most people don't want to work for mages, and most mages don't want people as guards. Golems are superior in most ways to them after all, loyal, stronger, won't betray you.

Agnar finally shows up, with Mikkel and a strange man beside them. Compared to Agnar and Mikkel he's small, and doesn't seem too strong. He got a longbow and a green and grey cloak

Jack, Emily, hi.

Agnar points to the cloaked figure

This is Edvin. He's an expert archer and great in moving without being seen, without use of magic. Neither does he say much.

Emily waves and asks them to sit down and have a drink.

Just waiting for Vune to swing by and to let me know if we need to go in to finish Rhena off. The mages guild are making a path at the moment. If we are lucky they will not need help. But honestly I think Vune doesn't intend to actually try to finish the job even if she could. Which honestly she could if she wanted. The woman is powerful but can be quite lazy.

Jack sighs.

Ok, let me be clear: It has members throughout the world, but it's main centers are in Jerusalem and Rome. They send messages via fast ships, which if it's a long bloody voyage like this one would be, it would still take quite along while. And I don't want to hear anything about your mages guild, they can helpful sometimes that I grant you, and not all of them are bad, again, that I grant you. But other than that, they're rather obnoxious and percieve that they can just do whatever they like to anybody. Tell me, was veera part of the guild when she murdered those nuns?

Jack smiles at agnar and his group

Emily smirks

Sounds like your just offended that your organization isn't as great as you think it is. The fact that you know so much about them makes me think your probably a member, so that's why your so adamant about stating how great it is. But in all honesty do you not realize how incredibly stupid it is to not have a decent sized branch in key locations? Or how stupid it is to have 2 MAIN branches in Rome and Jerusalem? Those 2 areas are rather close to eachother, it would be FAR more effective to move one to another location to help spread the power out a bit and allow for faster more effective responses. The fact that they have existed for thousands of years and don't know basic strategy like placing capable branches in key locations just shows how incompetent they are.

And ill speak of my guild whenever i damn please. If you want to prattle about your crappy orginazation, then ill speak about my guild. They've done more to help avonmora then your orginazation ever has. And they are far from obnoxious. They give respect to those who show respect, and honestly jack, you treat magic like its the most evil thing in the world, so of course magic users are going to dislike you-your disrepsectful to their very way of life.

And yes, Veera was a part of the guild when she killed the nuns. A blood debt was owed, and Veera collected. And if Veera hadn't killed them, Vune would have. And if she didn't do it, I would have when I was capable, even if i would prefer not to kill them. But A blood debt when owed must be paid, whether a person likes it or not.
