Emily sighs

Don't thank me yet. If she decides she still wants to mess with you, ain't a damn thing I can do. Woman could stomp me, Veera, and Ellen all at the same time if she wanted. Hell she's done it before. Back when I got locked up in my own castle, she's the one who put me there, Veera and Ellen both jumped in to try to help, and well, didn't end well for any of us. Was certainly nice of my sisters to help though, I should get them both a gift when this is done.

Emily decides to drink, and orders a large bottle of fine wine. She drinks out of it, and just sighs.

This is going to really stink for me later, but its worth it.

Jack's porter is brought to him. The priest, sits back, sleeping. Some of Jack's men in the corner, who have been given permission to drink to their hearts content, are singing with another group of sailors. The difference between these two groups is apparent, the pirates wear their finest clothes, and carry swords, the sailors do not. Jack looks around.

Why do the mages guild own a tavern?

Same reason they own that arena, and a bunch of other things I probably don't know about. It gives them income, and gives mages a safe place for members to get a drink, or rest. A lot of people don't like mages-many would like to see them killed. So the guild tries to make sure that mages stay safe. They got inns, shops and taverns in a lot of places. Vune has been leader of the Mages guild for hundreds of years easily. She's had plenty of time to set up shops and taverns all over the place to get her income and set up havens for mages. Vune is a good person-to her family, friends and fellow mages. Almost everything she does is for them.

Jack takes a sip of porter

Just out of curiosity, can you name something that could fight the mates guild? Anything at all?

Emily shakes her head.

Its got some enemies, but nothing that could actually beat them, and certainly nothing that could wipe them out, though many have tried. If something comes that they can't beat they can just teleport away, go into hiding and wait for better times. Vune has plenty of hideouts all over the place for members. She often waits for threats to die of old age rather then fight them herself. Take yourself for example Jack. Vune doesn't like you, but she doesn't consider you a big enough threat to want to kill you. Instead she plans to just let you die of old age rather then spend any effort to kill you herself. That's how she deals with most of her enemies honestly-let old age or disease kill them.

Just between us, there is an organization or rather...an order, whom's existence will be announced. The knowledge of its existence is neither secret nor is it completely open yet, it's just not talked about. It's not made necessarily to fight the mages guild, just to keep magicians from cuasing havoc, once they are fully operational there will be no more Rhena-like problems. All I can tell you is this: there is no force, on earth that is, that can oppose them.

Jack sits back on for a second.

By the way, why does Vune dislike me? Was it something I said? The fact that I am religious? Does she think I'm haughty? I'm rather curious.

Emily shrugs.

Probably a combination of you being a pirate, and being religious. She despises most religious people, and most religions in general, and she doesn't like pirates all that much.

As for that organization, you would be shocked at just how much power the guild has and how smart Vune can be. And even in the event that they can't directly oppose it, they will find a way if they deem it necessary to destroy it in time. But so long as it doesn't do anything to oppose the guild or harm its interests, nothing should happen.

Jack shakes his head :

And you'd be surprised at exactly how incompletely indestructible this order is. It's existed in many forms for thousands of years, fought many people, some even more powerful than Vune, who had attempted to destroy in ALL manner of ways, and yet they simply can't do it.

Key phrase there is existed in many forms. That implies that its been forced to adapt, or change, or has disbanded to later reform. The mages guild has existed since near the beginning when magic was first practiced, and like that order its been forced to adapt, change, and in a few instances been disbanded to later be remade. As Vune has taught me nothing is truly indestructible and nothing truly lasts forever. Not her, not me, not you, not the Mage guild and not even this organization you speak of. Everything and everyone has a ending. All one can do is at best, delay it. Take me becoming a lich-that doesn't mean I will exist forever, I knew that before I even went through with it-all I have done is buy myself a considerable amount of more time.
