Pirates Ranking

Why do pirates not have a ranking system or a king? Could you make it so there is?

There is a perspective we have, which is of course controversial. However, this perspective has been shaped during the years. We often get complaints about the game being Witch Doctor's Glory or Traders Glory. Actually, there are many ways one could call it. We call it Pirates Glory.

I believe that it is not controversial to say (and most could agree) that being the Pirate here, can be one of the hardest of paths. Mostly because of the negative social reactions a pirate receives. As developers we believe that this is acceptable up to a point. Although we strive to eliminate extreme reactions. We like simulating real history and we want Pirates Glory to act as a simulation, where it can. Therefore, having a hard path for Pirates is something fitting.

This is why the Pirates around are few and at most cases they last a few time. However, what they get is game wide recognition, or better said, notoriety. We believe that this is after all the greatest feat that real pirates had. When we discuss about Pirates, we discuss about Notorious Pirates. Being Notorious is perhaps the ultimate achievement for a Pirate.

So, ultimately it is hard to create such a ranking. It already exists though, in the Taverns of the game, where players talk to each other or even plan the destruction of such players. If there is one thing we certainly want to do, is to increase this aspect of the game. We have made a small step with in-game comments for Global Events. Similar steps can and should follow. If you can come with ideas that will help towards this direction, I believe that this could be the best way for this so-called Pirates Ranking.

suggested pirate ranks in Republic of Pirates suggestion

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3829&hilit=republic

Ranks (is the equivalent rank in nations )
Pirate king – king of all pirates
Magistrate - elected pirate governor – if a port is held
Pirate lord - ( duke )
Captain ( marquess )
Quartermaster (count)
First mate (baron)
Buccaneer (admiral)
Mate(colonel)
Seaman(major)
Deck hand(captain)
Swabbie ( citizen)

This was intended to function similar to a nation but with the benefits that made sense to pirates.
ranks needed meet criteria and approval from other pirates

Re: Captain Jack's suggestion.

how about a list of pirate descriptors. Players can nominate and vote for pirates to hold those descriptors.

xxxx " the bold" -
xxxx " The Brutal" -
xxxx " Fearless"
xxxx " terrifying "

the player nominated with the most votes for the specific title earns that title until another player gets more votes

Banger the brutal
Dez Nutz the fearless
Sir Edward pellew the bold
Terrifying Pul Pop

I would suggest a list of 10 to 20 descriptors

Suggest that player holding a title can adjust the title to front or rear of their name to the place it most makes sense.
each title would have a default position If the player selected is not currently active.

if you are awarded a descriptor, you get an achievement

I am uncertain if it should be a requirement to fly to black to hold a descriptor.

Alternate or additional
Players could be ranked by plunder balance, ship plunder or a combination of both.

We already have a stat for ships plundered, but this is not single handedly a measure of ones piracy skill
as many pirates may not even care about ship plunder and are only interested in the gc.
