Wouldn't the sloop be blasted to death before they could fire? I mean I imagine that, given the order they were given to fire upon any sudden movements, the sloops would fire the moment they see men move toward the cannons, they wouldn't wait long enough for them to load them, and fire them. I mean you could say they were loaded preemptively, but they still would need to light the fuses which would require you know, quite a bit of movement, compared to the sloops who were prepped to fire immediately. Not to mention the time it would take to drop a flag, and raise a new one. But for the sake of the story ill say its fair game. Besides would be a bit less fun if it was over like that honestly.
You are assuming that all guns are on the deck and all crew is visible.
no I do not. I heard it was possible to fire both broadsides in master and commander (the book). What happened to the pirates having only three ships?
Okay I admit dez that clears up the guns and cannons, but doesn't explain how you lowered the Spanish flag and raised the jolly roger without you know, getting blasted. But honestly, seeing as how that is more flavor text and not really impactful on the story, I find it fine. Besides it really is pretty neat seeing that honestly.

To be fair, I stated that, but that doesn't mean the info they got was 100% correct. I didn't think dez would play the part of the pirates, so I more or less decided, heck, less work for me, ill let him be the bad guy in this one. So, therefore, even I don't really know what all is coming and such. Which honestly makes it more fun for me to.

Weighted pulley system, it would only need to be cut at the tie down point. The weight at the Spanish flag would fall bringing the flag with it and the hidden Jolly Roger would rise without any effort by the pirates.
To be honest I only intended on the sloop of war and the two frigates conduct battle. The two large frigates would only fire to even the odds or if ships got close, but would and will likely roll out once the mortar fire is over. You guys kept pushing more and more ships into the situation. A Pirate would just run against such odds. Had to make it worth fighting.
