Gregory chuckles

Now, now, ladies. We don't have time for cat fights. I asked for crossbows because I use them, but don't have any here. They are excellent for hunting when you want to bag more than one animal in a hunt. Big loud booms tend to scare off the animals. As silence is key in sneaking up, we wouldn't want to be shooting our guns and thus alerting them to our presence before we are inside. If you don't want to use them, go ahead. But if we aren't in the fort by the time the first shot is fired, I'm turning around. I'm not getting killed because of someone's ego.

Jack sighs

There are what? 100, 200 men? I have over 800 men, more than enough to storm the fort.

Carl just shakes his head before replying.

Sure, 800 men could take on 1-200 pretty easily in a normal fight. But these people are in a fort, on a hill, armed with artillery. We show up and rush forward with 800 men our chances of winning would not be great. And even if we do manage to win, our forces would be decimated.

Jack puts his face in his hands.

Firstly, we aren't all going to run in a giant line at them, we'll come at them in patches. And secondly, we we won't go in their guns blazing, we'll all creep up towards the fort in the dead of night, and come over the side. Once we are over, we'll invade the place and slaughter everyone. I've done this before, many times.

Carl shakes his head.

That might work if they were not expecting an attack, but like Oggie said, the moment they realize one of their higher ups was caught, they would be expecting a raid on their fort and turtle up. Felior said they keep plenty of scouts out watching, and with a member gone they will probably be putting out even more. Trying to sneak 800 men close to that fort, even in the dead of night and in patches would be hard to do. If so much as one man gets caught and a signal is sent, we can be expecting plenty of mortar shells to start bombarding us.

Aha!

We can surround them from all sides, making it harder for them to shoot at us, they DON'T have enough men to man all cannons. And if we are in patches, they won't hit a large number of us.

Carl sighs.

Mate, this fort in in a mountain pass blocking a valley remember? Its a very well placed fort. There is only one side we can hit them from. Well I suppose we could try to get some men to hike around the mountains and hit from the valley side, but that would take quite some time to do-and odds are they are currently setting up traps and defenses for the raid they are expecting. Though I suppose the valley side would be far more unguarded then the other side, but I am worried about meadow too, so id prefer if we hit them sooner then later.

no worries, can be hard to remember everything.

Oggie comes back in, along with some guards carrying a fair number of crossbows and bolts. A moment later Emily comes in, looking much better then last time, her skin is still deathly pale, but she no longer looks old or withered. She walks up to Jack smiling.

Moment I heard there was a lab with potential items I might want I had to come personally. I can get a small group into the fort undetected, you just have your men stay here at port while a small group of us go in, and takes out their artillery. Once that's done we signal them and they storm the place.

Finally can get back to this, pretend that Aeron was magically with the group but didn’t say anything

I can help sabotage the main guns, did that plenty of times before.
