Raven looks up from his drink
I once thought I saw a dragon once, but it was a boulder, yet that boulder led me out of a storm when I tried to reach this dragon, I never forgot it.

Jack takes a drink, he's not drunk as he's remarkably good at holding his liquor.

I am wondering, how Ellen became a captain of a ship in the first place, it's a very strange to me.

Brian shrugs.

Not really all that strange. The older nuns would need to go to different ports before, so instead of relying on other ships and captains to get them to other places, they had their own ship, which Ellen inherited. And finding a crew was easy, the orphanage was filled with kids who were both older and around the same age as her who would love to go and see the world. Hell that's how I joined up with her, i was about a year younger then her, so i was old enough to join her crew when she made it, and I have been her first mate ever since. Many of the kids in the orphanages are told they can sail with us when they are grown if they want to, so that corvette we have may be replaced with a frigate, or something even bigger sooner or later, might even need multiple ships someday.

Jack nods

Interesting. How'd she learn to sail? Who taught her signs and charts? The rules of navigation? What to do in a storm? I was taught how to do these things durning me time in the navy.

Brian laughs.

Same people who taught me, the nuns. They would teach us all sorts of things back at the orphanage, and if we asked them to teach us something in particular they normally would. Now where THEY learned all the stuff they knew, I have no idea. I assume they picked it up during their long lives, and through all their travels, they were all quite old and well travelled, having spent decades spreading the word of god through land and sea.

That's very interesting. Now, I have another question, does this religion you belong to have a cleric? Or is it just nuns and no "priests" per say?

Brian actually has to think for this one.

Hmm. No, as far as i know no priests or clerics are a part of our group, though the nun's did try their best to get some of the young boys to become priests as they got older, though i never was interested in becoming a father, and most of the other boys were the same. They tried convincing the young girls to give being a nun a chance, but other then Ellen none took them up on that offer. They also had no luck recruiting outside the orphanage either. Some nasty rumors were spread that the nuns were not nuns but a coven of witches, which of course just a rumor. They literally read several pages of the bible daily to us kids, had crosses everywhere, preached every sunday, and hell the governor even had a thourough investigation of every inch of the orphanage and their homes and nothing but religious items were found, nothing witch like at all. I think i know who made those rumors, but i rather not speak on that matter.

Brian sighs.

Well technically Ellen does count as one, so yes one was interested. But like I said those rumors really hurt their credibility, ESPECIALLY with men. Since there were no men as priests or clerics the rumor of them being witches seemed to be legitimate to many people, and thus that caused many religious men to steer clear, which prevented them from getting men into their group, which made it seem more likely they were men hating witches. One of those vicious cycles you know? And even us boys who grew up raised by them had some suspicions. A few rumors floated around that they just wanted us boys alone with them to eat us, and children being stupid children we actually somewhat believed those rumors. I'm rather ashamed I ever did honestly. But yeah lets hear a story of yours, we have time for at least one before we reach the destination, hopefully its a happy one.
