Source? And 18th century sloops usually have a smaller draft than modern ones. And they had different sails which could be let down or pulled up from different angles in the win to increase or decrease speed

Vikings ships were specifically made to be able to sail in shallow waters, and rivers, and to land safely in places that most ships would be unable to land on without becoming beached. Vikings would land in an unexpected area, rush in, kill, loot then rush out before a proper defense could be rallied. They also believed the worst death would be being killed while running, so they would never surrender of flee from a fight even if they were losing. Pirates on the other hand, would have no problem with running away from a fight if they were scared of didn't believe they could win. So once more, in a fight between the 2, if its on land the Viking would most likely win. The only way pirates would win is if its out at sea in an area that isn't in shallow waters.

Sloop were designed for the same thing. Again, depends on the pirate, Edward teach never ran.

This is what I found

Viking ship 15 feet
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_ships Knarr section
Sloop: 25 feet
http://www.clearwater.org/the-sloop/his ... fications/
Yes I know the sloop was a tourist attraction but it was a replica of a 18-19th century sloop

Still, they were more maneuverable and were better armed.

Yes some pirates may have been like that and would never run. But it was a belief in viking religion that one would die at a certain time no matter what, so virtually EVERY viking would fight to the death and never retreat. While i suspect only a very few number of pirates were the same way. In fact didnt Teach's own crew surrender after he died in his final battle? While if the leader of a viking raid died the rest would have fought on until they died with him or won.

We were talking about the beam size but let’s move on

Yes but the Viking do get the advantage of oars, do sloop have oars?Well they have rudders so that’s a plus..........damm this is getting interesting...

So we have to discuss actual melee combat, in close quarters, long rifles won’t be much use, thus making the pirates having to use pistols and swords, swords aren’t so effective against armor, despite how movies portray them.

The Vikings believed that they must die with a weapon in their hand in battle in order to enter Valhalla
