The idea of building cheap fleets to grow quickly is not the appropriate way in my opinion, and so many teach this method.

Bingo. I have tried to farm player in SSAA and Helm with far less success than SSTG. I did take a nasty whoopin from Meph and Dozer but once that show was over it was open season.

Maybe. We should ask this to someone that started there. There are still a few.

I do not know how SSTG structured things, but it sounds more like what a true training guild should be like.

Some players just don’t want to learn or ask no matter what you try

Or they don't want to listen when you advice them

I agree with that, but the blame does not lay with the attackers in that situation. That is a perfect example. The only way some people learn in that case is to lose a few fleets.

I know it was my biggest motivation.

I encountered those people and when they lost MoWs and SotLs I was meh their fault I warned them they decided to put MoW with 4 SotLs and keep purse on 1-1.5M with another 20 fleets doing trade. For those people I don't care if they lose they lost it due them not listening advice and those people deserve to lose ships in my book.

sounds like me, I quickly decided to adapt a bit after losing at least 10 sotls and a level 10 MoW that being arrogant is not going to work

Speaking from experience, leaving a training guild too early and losing a MoW through lack of knowledge is a harsh lesson, but I'm happy to take the blame and put it down to experience. However, when I then spend the time to learn to plan and execute an attack in response, its surprising to find the attacker wants to keep upping the ante.

Oh, and besides there is the old blackmail tactic of "do you retaliate? then we'll attack your weaker guildmates another hundred times". Very vile but working. So it goes.
