A voice is heard in the background, but what is said cannot be heard.

Please excuse me for a minute.

The young women closes the door. Through the door a conversation can be heard, but the words cannot be made out. After a minute, the door opens fully. The young women stands there politely but is clearly agitated.

Please come in and sit at the table. My...uhm....Mr. White will be with you in a minute.

The two enter. The young women closes the door and heads up the stairs to the second floor.

After a minute, Mr. White comes from a backroom with a cup of coffee and a flask. He sits down at the table, pouring some whiskey into the coffee. He takes a sip and looks at Ellen and Jack

Ellen, Jack, what can I do for you? This isn't exactly what I would call an expected visit.

Ellen nods and says politely.

Sorry for the unexpected visit, hate to trouble you but during our raid on the pirates in the caves while we were inside fighting a fleet came and sank 2 of Jack's ships. They were unmarked and we were wondering if you might have any idea who it could have been.

Mr. White looks at Jack.

No.

Mr. White takes another sip of coffee looks at Ellen.

Sorry, Ellen, but my previous help was a courtesy as it involved innocent children at an orphanage. Under normal circumstances, information that I may have or obtain comes at a cost and is conditional.

One such condition is discretion, and that isn't just keeping one's mouth shut about where the information comes from. That includes keep oneself out of the public's eye when using that information. While Jack is already in the public's eye, his barrage on the caves was very public to the point that it shook the town and caused a panic. My intel comes from people who may have families in this town. Their families come first, and where do you think they are going to look now that information that they provided was used in a manner that put their families in danger. They clearly know it was Jack, but now my name is associated with his crassness.

Let's not get into the fact that one of my informants is dead because of this.

As I said before, I have a public image to maintain. Jack's presence here is an issue in and of itself.

There is nothing that I can do for Jack, even if I had information.

Mr. White finishes his coffee.

Is there anything else, I can do for you?

Ellen shakes her head.

No, that was really all I needed. Thank you anyway.

Ellen stands up and looks to Jack

I will talk to some of my friends in port see if they know anything. Rather unlikely but worth a shot. If nothing else Jack you can still go and try to get your revenge on the king. Who knows maybe he sent them. Again unlikely but you never know. I think I will stick around Tortuga for a while, get the orphanage up and running again, then maybe sail around the other ports opening up more.

Mr. White, escorts Ellen and Jack out of the cottage, closing and locking the door behind them.

Now if you excuse me, I have business to attend to.

Mr. White quickly walks toward the town.

Ellen nods.

You are definitely going to need it, since I highly doubt the king would sail anywhere while your still around without a massive escort. In the meantime I think I will oversee the rebuilding of the orphanage. Think I will call it St. June orphanage. Anyway there is a town meeting starting soon in the church to elect a new governor. The old one....

Ellen pauses for a moment before speaking again.

Had a bit of an accident. And I need to make sure whoever the new governor will be will know how to avoid a similar accident.

With that Ellen heads into the church and stands at the Pew next to the priest. The front rows are full of wealthy merchants and nobles, with the poorer citizens being forced in the back, Ellen shakes her head.

The meeting goes on for a few hours, until finally a consensus is reached and with the support and endorsement from Ellen the local priest is elected the new governor. The meeting disperses as Ellen stays behind to have a word with the priest, a man by the name of Edwin Westerson. Ellen speaks in a polite voice.

Congratulations Edwin. Just remember our agreement. I help you get elected, and you provide aid and funds to the orphanage for as long as you are governor.

Edwin quickly nods his head.

Of course Sister Ellen, I will honor our agreement.

Ellen smiles.

Good. So long as you do that, you won't have to worry about my sister and I paying you a visit.

Ellen leaves the church and goes to the orphanage. The governor promised a large force of men to quickly rebuild it. And within 2 days its finished. Ellen finds a few locals who seem trustworthy to run it while she travels. She takes the 3 men who burned the building to Jack.

The work is done, do whatever you like with them. They have a few bruises they received when trying to bolt, but my sister kept her word and showed restraint. I will be retiring into my chambers at the orphanage. I have paperwork to do. The troubles in Tortuga seem to finally be over. After I finish the paperwork I plan to head back to Regis, then St. Martin.
