Jack runs forward and kills three men with his cutlass, in a matter of seconds. Jack smiles as he see's that his men are wining. A shot whizzes by his head he immediately turns around and fires back killing the man. Jack turns to see a fancifully dressed man walking towards him, he a appears to be the leader of the pirates. Jack recognizes him, this man was the captain of the ship he'd first been pressed on, he was known for his excessive cruelty and wickedness, it appears he turned to piracy. The man steps up to Jack holding out his cutlass in a dueling sort of way. Jack raises his sword.

"remember me, Jack?"

Aye, I remember you, I should have shot you back in Chalkos.

"But you didn't"

Jack swings his sword, the two men fight with such quick strikes that they are a blur.

35-40 minutes of constant barrage.  Nice infinite ammo cheat you have there, that or your completely out of ammunition.  A gun manned by an experienced crew could fire at a rate of 2-3 shots every 5 mins.  So that's an average 2 mins per shot.  Based on the 35-40 mins of firing you have 17-20 shots for the each cannon during the time.
So a ship that has 100 guns will have 50 of them firing (not all of your cannons are firing at once as half of them are on the side of the ship facing away from the "fort"), thats between 850 and 1000 rounds being fired from that ship alone.

2 Man-of-Wars, 3 Ships of the Line, and 5 Large Frigates bearing no markings and no flags slide up behind Jack's 20 ships that have expended there ammunition. After about 15 mins of battle, the 20 ships of Jack's fleet are either sunk or critically damaged. The attack fleets leave under the cover of the smoke from battle, without picking up any survivors or taking any plunder.

Dez, kindly screw off. I"m going to ignore this bullshit comment and pretend it didn't happen. Also, that's false. It takes an experienced crew around 1 minute and 30 seconds to quickly reload and fire a cannon. You every hear of trafalgar? Those ships could fire for hours, mine only fired for about two hours, the ships at trafalgar fired for several hours longer than that. It is clear that your knowledge of ships and sailing is lacking, like how you didn't think that with the large number of crew i have that maybe that some ships are bigger than others and that not all of them are the same size.

Jack, please be civil and polite, Dez made a good point, though to be fair its fine to embellish things from time to time this is a role play it doesn't have to line up completely accurately.. Also Jack, Dez said a experienced crew can fire 2-3 shots in 5 minutes-which would be about 1-3 minutes a shot or about 1 shot every minute and a half to 2 and a half minutes. So your math adds up pretty much exactly to what he said.

But that's what i meant when i described the fire rate of my ships. I wasn't saying they were rapid fire. also, those ships carried a TON of ammo and could fight like that for hours on end, just look at trafalgar, so his comment about them being out of ammo is a hundred percent wrong. I was describing an almost constant barrage of shots for about two hours, meaning the broadsides are not uniformed but the men just fire their guns at will

After rereading your posts you are correct you never said they were firing rapidly, just a constant barrage. And with 50 cannons on your main ship, that can very easily do a slow yet constant barrage.

Edit-As for running out of ammo, I will admit I know nothing about how much ammo ships at the time could carry. But factoring in the fact that you knew you were going into a battle, and were not travelling far it stands to reason you could bring extra ammo and leave with little to no food, so I think its safe to assume you could have plenty of ammo for this.

That's between 1min 45 seconds and 2min 30sec. Which averaged out is about 2min 8secs. Making them shoot faster makes it even worse for you situation, which means you fired even more shots which makes your situation just that more unrealistic and more likely that you have no rounds left on your ships.

Since you want to take it personally, game on.

Having served in the military, a constant barrage is done at a rapid fire.

Okay, guys, how about we take a minute to calm down, maybe grab a nice cold drink, and just remember this is all in good fun.
If you 2 want to continue your argument, can you please either do so in PM's or start a thread elsewhere while we get back into the RP.
And again Dez, I personally think its fine to embellish thing a little, so even if you do think what he did isn't possible remember that this is just a RP.

ok. your comment about the rate of fire is correct, but your comment about them being out of ammo is wrong. Also, Jack's gunners are extremely experienced when it comes to reloading and firing cannon, which means 1 min 45 seconds is the norm for them, 2 min 45 on a bad day. I apologize for my rudeness.

Ok, doesn't change the fact that his ships would be either low on ammo or are completely out. Element of surprise (Fog of War) would still allow for my situation that I added in. He fleets would be sunk.

The faster you fire the more rounds you are firing, which means you if you weren't out of ammo before you are now. How many rounds do you think a ship carries, and don't forget the gunpowder?
