Having to buy votes would be a terrible idea in my opinion. I don't think anyone would pay to get to vote for another player-unless said player offers to pay them for it-which honestly would ruin the top helper award since it would no longer be voting for someone who helps, but whoever is willing to pay for the votes. And if I have to pay to vote for someone, I think I would rather cut out the middle man and just give that person the credits directly if I felt they deserved it.

Oh my! -1 to any "buying votes" system.
But +1 to the idea of give more visibility/importance to Top Helper Awards.

Helping new players was one of the game keys, once.

I agree buying votes would destroy entire concept of top helpers. I like what was said 2 new cards make them common 1 turn... To pervent grey market and issue with buying votes I say make them available only trough present or accuired via attacking NPCs.

Helping was one of the keys of the game that made me stay, together with some voodoos like Buried Treasure and Iron Golem. Helping. For free. Not for trade.

True I stayed due people being friendly and due me finding good people to hang out with.

Once you spend your votes you have no reason to visit top helper page. With these cards you would get reason to visit it just to see did anyone got hit by it. It wouldn't affect gameplay on any seriouse way. But it sure would make some people rage. You being at 20 votes and day before it was rewarded someone destroy 1 vote would be amazing and kind a trolly so why not

True but limitting cards to presents only would pervent cheap grey matket deals which in return would eventually make those deals unprofitable. And lets not forget there is always counter that destroy 1 vote so if I buy 2 votes to be eglible for top helper reward and then someone destroyes 1 vote I am again in negative I spent my gold/credits and gained nothing...

I totally like the idea of giving back some importance to Top Helper Award, but I don't like making that a lottery where you get a +1 o a -1 with cards.
This would not have any link with the "Helper" part of the award name.

Maybe the game could give more votes to players, like one new vote every year spent playing.

I also dislike the idea of a vote being destroyed. It would make it very common for an unpopular player to never get the award no matter how much they help new players. An idea I thought of not to long ago was something some other games have that help promote daily activity. Daily rewards for logging in-now I don't think pirates glory should have that exactly, but my idea is, if a player logs in daily for X amount of days, they get a new vote they can use. This I think would help promote daily activity-and if a person is very active and earns another vote, they would probably have a fairly good idea of who could deserve that vote. The amount of days to earn the vote is up for discussion. Perhaps every 2 weeks, just like how it checks who earns the award after reaching 20 points.

Edit-and perhaps it shouldn't be consecutive since something can happen or pop up that would prevent a normally active player from getting a new vote. Regardless I really do think there needs to be some sort of system to where players can get more votes because there are a fair number of people who I can think of right off the bat I would like to vote for the award, but all my votes are used up.

We already have daily rewards - voodoo gifts.

That said, I agree that "minus votes" is a bad idea. However, I also agree with Danik that something to help the Top Helper awards become more functional is a good idea.

A problem with this feature, in my opinion, is that it is primarily for relatively new players. They are the ones getting help, and they are the ones who can vote for those helping them. However, new players have plenty of other stuff to learn, the "top helper" is not important to them. The only way they learn about this, is if someone explains it to them.

So when helping a new player, you gotta go "... and that's how plunder works. By the way, if you click on" top helper", you can vote on me for helping you explain this". Feels wrong. It may be a cultural thing, but to me, at least, this just feels wrong. I help them with what they need. I don't want to tell them to vote for me.

Perhaps if this was part of the tutorials, somehow?
