Phone Notifications

This can be done in 2 ways (or both of them):

1)Notification through SMS

Pros
-The function is already ready. We created it back in the first days but we never used it.
-It is pretty straightforward.

Cons
-It is not free. We will need to pay for SMS costs. A quick calculation means that each SMS will cost 2 credits.
-Not 100% coverage, still very high.

2)Notification through a mobile APP

Pros
-Free of charge (per notification - you won't have to pay us but you may need to pay for internet provider fees on your phone)
-100% coverage.

Cons
-Application is not ready. We will need to create at least 2 for a start (1 for Android and one for Ios)
-It requires a mobile phone capable of connecting to the internet and running android or Ios
-Mobile phone will need to be connected to the internet to receive notifications (This is a con because many people prefer to keep this off - I am one of these).
-It still involves indirect cost for most people (internet connection fees + phone fee if you don't have it already).


The best option is to enable both at some time.

Also, we do have email notifications under construction, which can be the solution for MOST people as it could act as an application.
Almost ALL smartphones allow email accounts. So if you configure your email account in Pirates Glory in your smartphone, email notifications will be enough. You could even setup an email solely for Pirates Glory so you will avoid false alarms (For example, I do not dare to use my email accounts on my smartphone because of excessive spam I receive).


So, in short note:
-Email notifications should be more than enough for MOST mobile phones. They will act BETTER than an application in many ways.
-We could also add a SMS option, for those that do not own a smartphone or those who like to keep them offline.

Here's a solution for those of you who don't have an email app on your phone or don't want to pay for internet connection.

When you receive an email you'll get notified by SMS on your phone. It's pretty straightforward but if you need any help PM me.

The only problem I see is the 1 email per 2 hours setting. We should be able to switch it off when we want to

Just trying to revive this. I was going to suggest a voodoo alert but it's been hinted at before apparently. Captain Jack, can we please have a voodoo (hostile or not) email alert please?

I actually like the idea of a text alert when voodoo is cast, or you're attacked. Email would be a step towards it though

For me E-mail notifications would be sufficient provided voodoo alerts were added and the option to change how many notifications are sent within a given time frame was included.

Yes, mail would be good. But with the option of choosing what to report and how often.

Some might like getting notified for everything, but personally, a summary of events every couple of hours would be enough.
