I'm using plundering as a point that the defenders gain from being successful.

Aye, your boarded at sea, but win and the attackers surrender.. would you not loot their vessel?

It's a counter point to the "defend or lose" motivation suggestion.

The blockade battle is at "sea", do you think that the defenders are dry-docked in port and firing from afar?

Aye, off the coast and near port, but blockade sims larger naval battle with many ships. Those fights are not about disabling and boarding, its about filling them with holes and sinking.

To attempt boarding a ship in the middle of a large scale naval battle would be quite the silly notion.

So a "disabled" ship wouldn't still be disabled after the battle is over, thus boarded afterward.

I'm not suggesting plunder mechanics into blockades. My mentioning of plunder is solely in the comparison that a successful defense comes with a reward.

Not likely it wouldn't.. considering the shots were aimed to sink not disable, ergo the hull was targeted, not crew, sails, rudder or the like. By the time the smoke cleared and the waters calmed to where any sailor had wits about to search the wrecks, the vast majority would be gone or not worth the trouble.

And I am stating the design concepts are different as they simulate and fulfill different things.

Yet, plunder can actually sink a ship to the bottom of the sea.

Sigh,

Aye it can, but I suspect chasing down a fleet at sea to plunder her, you may not always be able to salvage them all, but something will surely be left.

The same could be applied in the blockade. Not all ships may be sunk, but there is likely something left to be salvaged after the battle.

Much less likely giving the type of battle, and with such little left, who says your captains would salvage it before the next guys?

Again back to concept, simulation, direction, aim, and points.

Blockades are "not" plunders, there is a difference in their points, uses, and thus their outcomes.
