Individual Fleet Treasuries

We are always looking for ways to improve the game. In fact, since the beginning player suggestions had played a major part in game design.

We read all suggestions.

We are clearly in disagreement here, as I see every one of those points differently.

Stealing entire fleets is very hard today, and no rules are needed to remedy this. Skirmish yields low profit, and is "easy and boring", so this should not be the main avenue of a pirate. And FFJs will light many fleets, but all (except maybe one or two) will hardly give any profit at all, and those large ones will require huge fleets to defeat, which in turns comes with a cost to use.

I am not sure if we agree on what the consequences of this suggestion will be, or whether these consequences are desirable or not. I see the consequences being less dilemmas for traders, resulting in less strategy options for pirates, plunders giving FAR less profit than today, stealing ships becoming nigh impossible, and skirmish being the main - nay, ONLY avenue for the pirate.

I do not see how pirates can operate at all under this rule.

The simple fact that each ship has its own treasuries will create surgically targetted fleets with the SotL or MoW in the lineup. The use of the fleet-targetted Booty Master, Disfavor and Ambush curse can make short work of the entire fleet. By adding fireship and call the kraken, it can be done with lighter warships, too.

The use of one treasury for all ships reduces that capability unless one's treasury is simply allowed to get too low.

As I say, that is my perception, and I may simply not be seeing it all properly.

I actually think the current system makes it easier to target trophy ships. 3 FFJ strategy combined with other cards can quickly drain any on hand treasury.

I have run as a pirate for a long time and the possibilities are all still there, I'd never suggest anything to eliminate or limit piracy. This only limits "full loss" to those sailing massive amounts of large fleets.

Strategy and tactics, this yields many more and coupled with features such as blockades, ship specialization and others battles would become very dependent on them. Under this mechanic players will fleet far more than just one or two large fleets, giving more large purses to hit.

This was resolved ;)

Benjamin Hornigold wrote:I find it much easier with one treasury as it is, you can use many less Booty Master cards on a player with 100 fleets, light him, hit em all to reduce treasury, use BM cards sink tail and voila.. even less ambush required most times. Then the target finds his fleet gone and many more to follow if he keeps lighting up.

Again we can discuss the percentage of max treasury but even so, the attacker needs to use more of the expensive cards and the defenders remaining fleets are not so easily rendered vulnerable.

Your point SHM is valid, however it applies in the current system while also making every other fleet susceptible.

I like the idea....

Another idea:

It was once mentioned that fame should be granted based on the type of fleet and its strength that one beats. With this, you earn more gc for beating a larger war fleet than a defenseless merchant fleet, tie fame earning into the amount of gc looted as it currently is with skirmishing and you have a working system rewarding more fame and coin for beating the tougher foe, while less of both for beating the easy prey.

Navy's win "wars and battles", pirates win skirmishes and small encounters at sea.

Aye, I do like that, and we can get rid of the current nonsensical fame model. At last, it can actually mean something.

I apologise if my post could be read as an accusation against you for wanting to eliminate piracy. So let me be clear: I do NOT believe that you would desire this. I believe that you would only make suggestion you believe is for the benefit of the game, and that you see piracy as a necessary part of the game.

I still believe that this suggestion would be a serious blow to piracy, even if that was not the intention behind the suggestion.

I understand your view on the "potential" outcome. However, I have run the scenarios, thought through the possibilities, and found ways "I" as a pirate would make this work in my favor without being harmed by it.
