A very nice idea : there is even a name for such things 'Flotsam and jetsam' Flotsam is goods or materials washed overboard, in storms and such : jetsam is material thrown overboard : to lighten the ship in a storm, or a chase, or contraband cargo if the customsmen show up.

A quick question: having no cargo improves chances of finding a good ship?

I think the answer has been posted (yes), but the text when you don't find anything says, "More crew + cargo = better chances next time" (paraphrase). So, just confirming.

Nope it is just msg meaning you need bigger total cargo...

5 trade galleons is sufficant to get perfect hunt

3lmm and 2 TG returns a perfectly planned wreck hunt. Fully loaded with cargo.

true but still 5 TGs is cheaper at least for him since if I am not mistaken he is one of the newer players

When this feature first came out I did a lot of experimenting with it to find the cheapest ideal fleet. And that would be 4 Trade galleons with a large fluyt tail.
