Themes is good to see different aspects, opinions, and construction. But eliminating choices for those tasked with picking their "ideal" team contradicts the point behind the event.

Even with adding themes, there are only so many you can touch on. Monotony will kill the draft. You do something enough with the outcome being almost identical as before and you will find the community as a whole will get bored with it.

I'm just throwing suggestions out there. I don't want the draft to be monotonous.

I agree with this, I just don't think limiting a captains options is good. Give them specific criteria to meet would be a way to indirectly influence the captains decisions while ultimately leaving it up to them. If they fail to meet the criteria or goal that will show in the voting.

I agree with Vane, I do not think there should be a limitation on who is picked. The two suggestions I have read that I liked so far is the idea that the draft starts with 5 people and they each pick a person, then that next set of 5 people picks people and so on and the idea of having positions on teams that have to be filled. I think either of these two ideas would change things up in a positive fashion for the next draft.

a different way, probably more embarrassing, is to let player apply to join a team.

in the first round team leaders are suggested, those five who get the most support are the captains
next all players can apply publicly to a team. (captains can try to buy players of their choice, players can buy a place on a team. both outside the forum, but the captains have to publish what loss/profit they made after the teams are complete)
next: The captains chose from 10 players from those who applied to their team.
last, Avonmora votes on the teams.

The Inactive Captains draft - only players that have not logged in for 60 or more days are allowed - going to be a bit uneventful - but its a theme. :D

Past, Present and Future Shadowood - "The fantasy draft is and will always be a way for the player base to come together for a week or so as a community to have fun and participate together like they have never done before in the game. It is a way to give props to those who have made some impact in the game/forums and also shed some insight on the game that newer players (and some old) may not know about. History, Gamesmanship, Friend, Foe, Tactics, Etc... all come out in the draft. Who someone values, someone else may think otherwise and for a variety of reasons. Which is what makes the draft so special and unique (IMO).

I do see the need to "spice" things up a bit and that is why we put this current draft to a vote. Both on style of draft and who the captains would be. I want the player base to continue to have fun with this as long as I am around... And potentially even after. I do and will listen to the players wants, but also will try to protect the core reasons for the draft.

Having said that, I don't ever see a big change in the first 2 rounds.. Look at the players on top of the last 3 drafts. There is a reason they are there and picked first or second... But you will see some decent changes in the later rounds. As it should be. Players come and go and things will always be on the move in the game. But never discount why those names like SHM, Black Sparrow, PHX, etc are at the top. They have earned the right to be there."
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

I actually believe Shadow put forth these ideas back in the original thread of options for this draft. It was voted upon that this would be a female captain draft.

Rookie draft was an option as well as Will suggestion along with theme drafts.

I don't think anyone is arguing that suggestions weren't made and a vote occurred but nonetheless the forward thinking folks here may realize that despite having all female captains, the flavor of the draft was still the same. I think all people are saying is, while it seemed like a good idea at the time a different flavor is in order for next time so lets flesh out ideas and all get on the same page for next time so we don't end up with the same flavor again.

If it makes anyone happy, I'm quite content to stand down from all future drafts, of whatever flavor they may be.

I do fear a case of 'prizes for all' is gaining ground : which is nice cos everyone gets a t-shirt, but it does detract from the point, in my view : which is that captainss choose who they want on their team, for their own reasons. Start proscribing that choice and it ends up no choice at all, devalues the whole enterprise and renders it quite meaningless.

Participation awards are for squares. The other issue that seems to be ever present is the buying of votes. I agree with Danik again lol. It should be a non tampered with winner take all contest.

Lets get the Captains blurbs posted and the voting started before CDV spends all his gold ;)

Then we have 6 months to decide how the next draft is structured.
