Paying a player without using Commandeer

If I want to pay gold to a player because of a deal I made with them (for credits or voodoo or other things), can I have them plunder and take one of my ships? The receiving player doesn't have a commandeer to use- so this is my solution. Captain Jack, please let me know if this is legit.
