I wouldn't call costs a true restriction, as costs can be overcome and a profit can rebound those costs. Costs only restrict players who don't pay for credits thus preventing them from building quickly. One can buy credits, exchange it for gold, ships, etc., and build a goldsmith relatively quickly.

Hence why buying credits gives an advantage... it allows someone to become wealthy and advanced a lot quicker at the cost of real money. Again not obtainable by all.. or also a "restriction".

it can be done by transporting them in fleets, but it is very slow going, not really usable for nation missions. best way is to buy the voodoo on the market.
you can get the credits by selling voodoo, building trade galleons or large merchantmen and sell them on the auction or just transfer goldcoins on the exchange. (or by them with usd of course.)

Black Death can be used to decrease port population by 1% and transport immigrants can be used to increase it by 1 %,. Best is that, you ask for a loan offer say 10 M , buy many credits with that, then buy 2 LMMS with it ,and put it on a trade route. use treasure fleet voodoo( optional), with the remaining creds, sell them at exchange say, of there's 1 credit for 155, do 153, of course you have to profit, so do 1000 difference between buy and sell price. With the profit earned, exchange it at credits and buy black deaths or transport immigrants
