looking at a post that is more than 30 minutes old that says a few minutes ago is a bit misleading
it should change to recently after maybe 5 to 10 minutes
That's what we are targeting. There is not great difference if someone posted this 5 or 30 minutes ago. Odds are that the last poster is still online. So he will see the new reply.
When you read 30 minutes ago, you assume that this is a long time ago but in PG time, this is not actually the truth. The reason is that I might make a post now and go make a coffee. Avery, who is online at the moment, will see my post within about 3 to 5 minutes. He will then need at least 1 more minute to reply. That's 6 minutes. Most of the time, replies take longer than these 6 minutes.
Meanwhile. odds are that I will still be away from my computer. Once I get back, I might not jump directly to PG or at the Tavern page. More minutes will pass. Might be more than 15 from my original post. Still, I am around and still my focus on the game is hooked to my last post. So the discussion can continue. That's point 1.
Point 2, has been told by Haron: Less text space.
There is a 3rd point. With previous system, we were all accustomed to check latest post time and oldest one. Many times I was checking to see if all 15 posts were 24 hours or less. This is the usual case. But at times, there might be 1 day old. At even more rare cases, it might be 2 days. Still, topics that I have not read but due to being somewhat old (come on, 2 days!) I would probably avoid.
There are quite a few different reading. Spanning from Few seconds to Many Days.
