Two points. The first point is definitely needed. The second point would be helpfully but would not be necessary if a massive common use demand for gold bars was created, such as the example I provide below.

1) Additional but more common uses for gold bars need to exist. With exception to LMMs and SOTLs, gold bars are exclusively used within the Hideout. Adding GBs to all ships will create a small demand, but for GSing to be worthwhile, there needs to be a large continuous demand for GBs.

As a suggestion, we could have a tiered influence purchase, such as a player can purchase up to say 50k influence in a port using gc. Once they reach that influence level for that port, influence must be purchased with Gold Bars. This would cause a massive demand for gold bars especially for those who hold or want to hold lots of influence.

2) As Danik suggested in reducing costs of GS creation, GB costs, or both.

I believe CJ's point is not primarily about supply, demand, or inflation. It is about getting GB's on the water! This is needed.

Shadowood wrote:There are some nice ideas above and with some new players growing, you can see some spikes in some markets where (I am assuming) a hideout or 2 is being upgraded. We all agree that there needs to more "Demand" for gold bars. But what also needs to happen is make gold bars "Move" again. The system (for a gold smith) is built around Transporting bars. So how do we create Demand for bars and make them Ship again.

VUDU has been discussing this a little bit recently and I hope the boys will chime in as they are smarter then me.

1. Gold Bars for High Influence Gains - It was suggested that, what if one could "transport" gold bars from one port to a port they are wanting to build influence in. Gold Bars would give XX% more influence then using gold coin. This system could aid some in fortifying a port or assist in a port take over. Again, bars can't be bought and consumed in same port, they must be brought in on ships

2. Port Buildings - These have been discussed and we are hopeful to see them in Version 1.9 -2.1 (soon). These buildings should create demand for players and nations building them. I don't see this creating a ton of movement as bars could be bought and consumed in same port, but its demand. A gold trader would recognized a port GB value going up and move bars there to sell.

3. Forts - DezNuts has a great idea about Nation Forts for Port Controlling Nations. These forts should take a decent amount of gold bars to build and then repair after attacks (kind of falls under Port Building)

4. Wars and Blockades - I am not 100% up to speed on this item, but I bet Haron can find a way to include Gold Bars into this idea, if it isn't already.

5. Nation Treasury Storage (Fort Knox) - It was discussed in VUDU about being able to store Gold Bars in a nation treasury to aid in the contruction of Port buildings, Forts, aid with Wars Blockages. Gold Bars would need to be transported by ship to be deposited. Cannot buy and consume in a certain port.

6. Monuments - A new feature that goes along with Nation Storage of Gold Bars. Nations can use Gold Bars to build monuments that will add certain Nation Specific bonuses. TBD. (Reduction in Black Death, Increase in Transport Immigrants , When trading among your own ports you get further bonuses, Influence buff for building but also reduction in Conspiracy, ETC....)

7. Ship Building - I believe it is confirmed that all ships will have a small gold bar cost. This will help create a small demand.

Just a few ideas, but yes there needs to be more Demand, but specifically, GOLD BARS need to be SHIPPING again.

I forgot about a Merchant Flagship so I will add this to my original post.

I may be misunderstanding your statement.

Getting the GBs on the water requires supply and demand. No one is going to ship (supply) large quantities of GBs if there is no demand for it. This is basic economics. You don't just move very costly items around for little or no profit, especially when there is no demand for them.

Aye I am saying not the primary motive.

The problem and question is, how to we get bars moving? Well simple like you said supply and demand. But if we create demand where it is still possible to purchase in one port and use in that same port, we have not solved our primary problem have we?

We need to create a larger demand for bars, but it must require bars be shipped for use and not simply purchased and spent within a single port.

I can still buy in other ports and use there though ;). (not that there are many uses now lol, but one day!)

We need something that will work well with new updates not just hideout specific.

Now we're getting there.

VUDU discussed port warehouses. A warehouse constructed for the purpose of storing resources for port actions such as buildings or blockades ect.

All resources must be shipped to this warehouse from another port and once stored can not be removed, only spent by the controlling nation and perhaps future update a percentage raided by another nation when at war.

Port buildings would be costly in GB's, everytime a port changes hands, the buildings constructed all lose half their current level, rounded down, IE: level 10 becomes 5, 5 become 3, ect. This prevents free loading off of another nations work, keeps the drive for resources high with action, and simulates damages that would be caused in a raid or sacking of a town.

I am of the impression that long time smithy's are still depleting their warehouse stocks in fear of OLOD cards being used against them is causing a market glut of GB. Better to sell for less profit than have them stolen and lose.
Could be wrong but demographics lend credence to the theory and with Joe Gold Tooth hiding somewhere not providing any insight cannot be good for aspiring smithy's.
