It belongs to USA minor outlying islands and is managed by the US air forces.

Yep, in the bad old days they were called 'colonies' but now they are just under 'administration' : bringing democracy to the world, just not yet and certainly not while they need the bases, airfields, fleet depots and bombing ranges.

Wake Island is a territory of the United States. The USA has a total of 16 territories that are owned and under the jurisdiction and protection of the USA, which includes Guam, Wake Island, Puerto RIco, and the US Virgin Island.
