Hmm..

It may be that Grimrock was lit by Vane. Two seasoned players who knows how to fend for themselves. Banger joins the feast on the plunder board but have spent no voodoo.

It may be that Grimrock refrained from retaliating on Vane but chose instead to launch voodoo on a player that may not have received experience in fending off voodoo hits.

It may be an inappropriate reaction that may have to be answered.

I know of players here who would have locked you down for a week with voodoo and not let you earn a crust at all : I know of other players who would have wiped you out : lit, hit, cleaned and taken every warship you have : others would put you on the bounty boards, hire mercs to raid you : some would do all that and still hound you afterwards : ask Charles, he'll confirm it.

Every player acts differently and not always consistently : what they ignore today as mere irritation, tomorrow becomes cause for rage : it's not about what YOU think is a reasonable response to an act : its about what THEY think is reasonable.

It's a tough lesson but must be learnt : no-one is obliged to accept being hit, for whatever reason : other players are not here to provide a social service, they are not dumb AI's either, following the programmed responses : they are individuals, looking to enjoy the game too : that's part of the fun, the gaining of experience and knowledge of the rest of the players : just cos its lit, dont mean its profitable to hit, it just means it can be hit, that's all. And, if you do hit, getting away with it unscathed is not always guaranteed.

The first scratch on the new ship always hurts the worst.
I Understand your position to be in big debt and then see a big chunk of your borrowed gc disappear in a couple retaliatory casts. If it helps ease the pain, I can/will restore a couple of those lost ship lvls if you send me a PM with ship numbers.
I don't like to see new players taken advantage of but then again, there are lessons to be gained from this encounter. That's why I offer half of your major loss. Lessons learned that cost money tend to stick better. My Dad used to tell me "purchased knowledge is very expensive" as I paraphrase.
My first thought if I were Grim would be a gang up of a guild on my assets. I would have struck back as well against any guild member involved.

It may have been casted two expeditions to level those ships back up to top. Reason may have been to ease tensions

Banger may have got caught in the crossfire between Charles and Grimm. But I still see no reasonable reason for anyone to demand compensation.
Grimm got lit and lost. He didn't demand compensation on a public forum, he retaliated. He got some of his attackers (excessive as it is) but to have the attackers come back and demand compensation for the retaliation is utterly "UNIQUE"

Sorry Banger, but that is how the game works. Hitting someone a few times for being on the plunder board is one thing, plundering about 1M in gc is not a small hit. You gambled on the concept of "Plunder Board is Free Game" which it isn't. Most players in general won't seek retribution for being on the plunder board, because they were the cause of being on the plunder board, ie. they attacked other players or setup trade routes improperly raising their danger rating, and those attacking them aren't doing so repeatedly. As Danik said, it's an irritation.

Using the excuse of him being a newer player is poor. 3 weeks is a plenty of time to understand the basics of this game. He was smart enough to join a guild and ask for assistance. He should have known that players could seek retribution. If he didn't ask or didn't listen to the guidance of his guild, that is his own fault. If his guild failed to provide him the proper guidance (I for some reason doubt this is the case), than I could see using the excuse of being a noob and try to cast blame elsewhere. Consider this a lesson learned in game play. If you don't think so, go ask those that have been in conflict where they had losses considerably greater than yours, what is fair.

This has accelerated above my pay grade. I will let the people who can handle this, handle it. Whenever a bad taste is put in someone's mouth then the result is usually to clear the bad taste. I understand the perspective that has been echoed by everyone here. I would like it noted for the record, that I am not the one that has made demands on anyone.
